In this project, I built my idea of the ultimate cyberdeck for 3D printing. Powered by the Khadas Mind 2 and Mind Graphics.
A modular, portable workstation to control, monitor and design for my 3D printers, directly in the workshop.

This cyberdeck allows me to:
– monitor and control multiple 3D printers
– work on CAD and slicing directly at the machines
– carry desktop-level performance around the workshop
– keep everything modular and upgradable

This is only version one of the cyberdeck.
If you have ideas for features, improvements or use cases, let me know in the comments. I’ll try to implement as many as possible in the next iteration.

What I'd like to see improved is a more comfortable grip and better weight distribution. Mounting the heavy battery lower would make it more stable and easier to hold.

Yeees ! I had a similar design project, I noticed there wasn’t a lot of cyberdecks that focused around large screen to draw instead of keyboards and other special inputs (which are still important for 3d work but the main part is still the screen) this looks great !

Awesome video ! Definetely going to push your channel.
Here's my input:
1) A universal magnetic holder on the side to hold stuff like a flush cutters, pen, caliper (stuff we use around the printer) is a no brainer to me
2) Sometimes your hands are full so using your voice seems natural to run the usual macros like preheat or change filament (especially if you have multiple printers). So I'd add a microphone to be able to use Voice Assistant (there's a project called View Assist that let you convert devices to smart speakers, I'm using it on my old phones to turn them into something useful these days)
3) I like having physical buttons for actions like emergency stops or basic scripts/scenes like turning on printer and lights - preheat
4) I would hinge the stand on a horizontal axis so the angle could be adjusted too.
5) This one is a project on its own but I'm considering adding an air monitor near my printer (in my office) because the air can get quite nasty. I don't know if an indicator for the air quality on the cyberdeck could be a good idea.
6) Maybe hooks on the side to be able to use a strap so you can let it hang and have your hands free. You might end up using the cyberdeck as a tray to move around your prints.

I’ve been working on a traveling livestream setup for all the gaming events I travel to, and I think you gave me the perfect place to start, never thought of doing a cyberdeck!

Now all I need is to start learning some CAD, since I have no concept of how to do it…

suggestion: i thought about doing a similar thing but using the 3d modleing app with the ipad, the major issue i always had with my projects was measuring real life things to actually design parts around it, i think it would be cool if there was a mount at the back to hold measurement devices, micrometer 3d scanner, tape measure and things that help me get accurate dimensions for cad designs!

Very nice, I love the status displays and LED strip. More technology should have tron lines. I suggest adding anchor points at the corner so you can add a shoulder strap or hand strap for easy carry, but otherwise your design is exactly what you need it to be without feature creep.

I love cyberdecks, and I know the point isn't to just use off-the-shelf hardware. The fun is in the journey. But honestly, the xPlay module for khadas mind is exactly what you made, sans LED strip. The xPlay doesn't let you remove the battery, and it's smaller than the screen you chose, but gives you keyboard, webcam/mic, speakers, and a nice kickstand, and it uses the native mind dock connector. It also works as a portable monitor, so you can use it at you desk as a normal displayport screen, just like your current design.

increadibly inspiring, i would like to iterate on this design to have performance capacities. I've been researching my own build for a week and I will also need a mini windows pc for my use case. I really like the modularity of the mind 2 but I want to run serato and other programs. Could you possibly check if your deck can run serato and at least one other program for a sustained session?
