LA public transit is really great considering how the city is laid out. Of course not the best in the world by any means, but it's usable, and it gets over a million riders a day, and is the second most used in the US. I will say though, they've definitely cleaned things up a lot in the past two years. It was quite unsafe and dirty between COVID and 2024, but they've increased security and cleaning a lot. LA is also one of the few US cities still expanding their public transit networks, with extensions opening up pretty much every year. The Regional Connector (E and A lines) downtown and the first part of the K line opened in 2023, the LAX Metro Transit Center and Pomona A line extension opened in 2025, Beverly Hills phase 1 D line extension opened earlier this year, and many more extensions and lines are under construction or in planning.

The ride as much as you want for $5 is a great deal

I've been to L.A. several times without a car, and I really found it quite easy to get around.  Yes it takes a while to get from one part of the city to another, but the transit is very reliable and generally safe.

A greyhound bus brought me here!

I wish I knew about this DASH bus to Griffith Park.  Last time I was in LA, I walked from MacArthur park to Los Feliz before giving up and calling an Uber', singing Missing Persons ' "Nobody Walks in LA" the whole way.

What a lovely video. The only time I was ever in Los Angeles was in November 1989, when the subway didn’t exist. I made my way around by bus then. It was lovely to see places I last saw in person 37 years ago.

Jeez !  Some revolutionary concepts coming out of this USA tour - first that a person can safely (well, probably safely) travel across the USA by Greyhound - and - now that a person could do a reasonable job of exploring the Los Angeles area by the often-disparaged public transit system.  I really liked your itinerary of doing things at reasonable cost. It seems that in the bright sunshine with lots of people around, even a sketchy area is not a real danger.  I'm continuing to find this series very...what's the word ? ....educational !   Nice work !

The best way to learn LA is by walking it. When I first got there, that was every Saturday for months.

If you go to the observatory at 3:30 am in the summertime you’ll be the only one out there. Within a half hour a small crowd will have developed, and by the time the sun rises there will be a crowd of people who all came to watch the sunrise. It’s the trippiest thing!

That streetcar lift was loud & rickety as hell. 😮

I walked from my hotel Ramada Plaza in West Hollywood to the Griffith Observatory which was pretty cool. Got an uber back haha. Should have known about the 35c bus. Like your confidence using the public transport. Safe travels and stay well. Cheers!

Enjoyed the video very much. I was born and raised in Santa Monica. A lot has changed since I was a young one. I still make it there often and do use the metro to get around the greater L.A. area. Cheers!

Native Californian here -- the better beaches are Laguna and Newport beach.   Los Angeles is actually pronounced with the last syllable sounding like "less" (Los Angeless} it is not pronounced like "leees".   It is Spanish.   Downtown LA is not a tourist destination -- people only go there for work but no one hangs out there .

as someone who lives in LA and uses transit most of the time, it's not as bad as people think. if you need to get somewhere quick yes it freaking sucks (ubers can be pricey too which sucks as well for those who need it) but if you have time it's not as bad. yes once in a while there are weird people but most of the time it's chill. I think for a city our transportation is good. the buses I have taken the most are the 4 and 2 (which the 4 can take you from santa monica to downtown and the 2 can leave you around ucla which is sorta near santa monica and it goes to downtown too) and the subway (which can take you quickest from areas like hollywood to union station which is in downtown) I also love being able to just not have to be stuck in traffic and just chill walking down the street just looking at how packed the freeways and streets are LOL 😂❤ I also LOVE that bus that takes you to the observatory! I've used it to go there and to the greek theater so the price is wonderful for all the places it takes you 😊
