"I will not go into all details... of what my father did..."
The bed wetting is a huge red flag for CSA ... and lack of care she received as a child, the fact her siblings didn't have super close contact with the parents, the fathers drinking and the mothers mental health struggles... there's more to the story I fear, doesn't excuse what she did but the situation is incredibly sad.

So 4 of their 4 children were estranged?
That by itself speaks volumes about the parents...

This documentary really tried to make me hate her. I feel incredibly sorry for her!

The flower shop owner and her assistant were really awful. Just laughing at her behind her back.

The part where Virginia said she bought people things because she wanted to see them smile was so sad. Everyone was talking behind her back and saying she was weird, but it didn’t stop them taking the perks. This village should be ashamed. Especially the florists. I don’t for a second believe she walked around in the shop throwing her arms around going “La la la.” What a ridiculous woman, spreading gossip. All of these people were part of the bigger problem. Shameful.

If you lived in a normal family you have no idea how weird a weird family can be. Two cold unloving parents are going to create a cold person. She just wanted to be a normal person.

Feel sorry for her buying friendship , nasty abusive parents .

I don’t buy the financial motive. This was all to do with her childhood trauma. It’s difficult to know the extent of it as she tells so many lies, but the bedwetting and scruffiness at school is a give away. Plus the bits she “didn’t expand on or want to talk about” are probably the painful horrible parts that we are not aware of. I don’t agree with what she did obviously, but I do have empathy for her. Trauma drove her to this and it’s really sad. Also how can three other siblings not speak to or visit their own parents for 5 years? Enough said!

I’m sorry, but we need to talk about the classmates. Were THEY the bullies?

As for her parents, smacking for wetting the bed can only be the beginning of making a child dysfunctional.

She sounds like she lived a life of emotional and physical abuse by parents and school peers.

I feel sad for her. She snapped. Eventually, even an abused dog bites back.

Those florists are horrid. Bad bit of advertising they did for their shop there. Customer spending £140 every time they go in and she's a nuisance to them? Saying she's weird and annoying for humming in the shop. No wonder she snapped, it seems she was unwelcome everywhere she went in her life. The whole town seems judgey and unfriendly.

The flower shop two thought she was strange (now) but happily took £100's haha.

Her parents were abusive, I’m not surprised she had so much anger towards them

People in this thread clearly have no understanding of childhood trauma, abuse, neurodivergence and mental health issues. I certainly do not condone what she did in anyway. But I feel an enormous amount of empathy for that girl. She had no one who understood her or showed her love as a child, that can alter a child's brain in childhood and shape who they become. How about we stop labelling her as weird and try to understand how to make fundamental changes so this does not happen to another family and focus on how to rehabilitate someone in this position.

For a university lecturer the house was pretty grotty. Seems like he was projecting his own lack of success onto his poor daughter.

It may seem strange but i actually feel sorry for her.Having unloving cold parents can be very cruel and painful.

@joannegregory3024 3 months ago

So the siblings didn’t bother to actually speak to their parents for 4 yrs…..

@beklouise9952 3 months ago

Not very nice village to live in by the sounds of it, nobody was nice to her, her friends ate bullies and so were her parents.

@chapintweed 3 months ago

The strangest thing about this whole situation is how her siblings neither telephoned or visited their parents in FIVE YEARS?

@ppa9479 3 months ago (edited)

I had a very abusive childhood. I don’t wish to hurt my parents or anyone else. I have a loving family of my own and no contact with those awful people. However I know I am lucky and that someone else that has been abused may go down a destructive, violent, sad route. The message is simple here, don’t abuse children.
