Today I'm attempting to make this wonderfully strange little chenille bump and spun-cotton Pumpkin Man from 32 Degrees North (https://tinyurl.com/a8efwkh6).
He's supposed to be about 5½ inches tall, with a pumpkin head, chenille body, autumn leaves, tiny bow tie, acorn hat... the whole deal.
I initially thought, "I don't need to order all these specialty supplies." Surely I can recreate this with stuff from Amazon and Hobby Lobby. I have cut corners on previous crafts and it worked out just fine.
This was incorrect. The proportions were completely off, and my Pumpkin Man journey began going slightly tits up.
So eventually I admitted defeat and ordered (some) of the proper supplies from the original website.
This video is the entire soft-spoken journey: wrong supplies, questionable substitutions, tiny pumpkin-man construction, and my slow realization that sometimes you should probably just follow the instructions.
