I don't do racing, but Speedhiking, and the Mafate 5 was the first shoe to carry me over 62K blisterfree. Love it.

The Rocket X is (IMO) the best trail shoe out there at the moment. I use it on anything up to really quite technical terrain and skip the Tectons in most instances.

My choice for most ultra-distances is the Mafate 5. I think folks like to talk about the weight, etc., but for the mid-packer the Mafate 5 has the cushion and an efficient feel that it simply works for long distances. If you are a serious, front-packer style runner (or think you are or should be), then I think it is a rotation of the Tecton X 4 and Speedgoat 7. I am becoming more and more convinced that you probably should consider a change of shoes (a few times) during an ultra depending on what the stretch presents. Also, alternating between a plate and no-plate can save your feet. My thoughts anyway.

Helpful video. First Like from Europe. Have a good day.

Great video, wish the new Speedgoat had a better upper... but glad Hoka is trying to "improve" on some of their daily foams and shoes.

I've done UTMB in Mafate Speed 4 and OCC in Speedgoat 2. I would not choose Rocket x Trail for those trails. I just finished a 200 miler in Tecton x 3 and I feel these are the best shoes rigth now.
