I met George in a cocktail lounge in Tenafly, NJ. 1976. Wound up back at his music room. I asked him if he still had the Johnny Smith guitar that he recorded the Breezin’ album with. He went to a different room and came back with it. He handed it to me. I played a little of the melody at that point he took back his guitar and played most of the song. Just for me. One of the nicest people I’ve ever met.

i love the segment of him just speaking Japanese, just trying to convey his thought as fast as possible probably

There are some good people on the world and you are certainly one of them.

Today the algorithm showed me a lovely video of a man named Paul Chester playing all the parts of this at once on his Telecaster. I searched Breezin' and found Tomo-sensei playing and teaching it too! Lucky! :) You might enjoy Paul's short too "Paul Chester Breezin" should find it. いきなり日本語面白かったです😅あるあるですね

The song is originally by the genius Gabor Szabo

Tomo, awesome story. I was studying Okinawan Shorin-ryu Karate and my sensei was also a jazz guitar player. He knew my guitar teacher, who did not study karate. Both of these guys were amazing people and huge influences on me and I miss them both. R.I.P. Gene Briscoe-sensei and Jimmy Kay. Gene played around in local clubs in Las Vegas, Jimmy taught classical guitar at UNLV and private lessons out of his home after he retired.

(4:49) "Forty years. I was believing wrong thing." It was that comment about Tomo's Jazz guitarist Karate teacher that made me laugh.

This proves my theory that just because it is an ibanez doesn’t mean that it’s a budget cheap end guitar.. look, the legend Tomo uses it himself!!!

Thank you so much for this lesson! I bought George Benson’ s vinyl album “Breezin’ “ in New York ... in 1976! Still have it, still love it!!!! :-) I am old man who like many started to play guitar again when retirement came along.

Thank you for your selfless sharing. In my heart, you are the best guitar teacher in the world. I have learned a lot from your videos and lessons. I am a Chinese student studying in Australia. The happiest thing every time is to watch your video. Although I haven't had a face-to-face class with you， when I was asked who your guitar teacher was, my answer was Tomo Fujita.

Idk why I like watching this dude play I don't understand any theory but it's so relaxing

Tomo.....you're the man! I just discovered your channel a few days ago and have been binge watching your videos! I've been playing for 35+ years and play guitar fairly well through mass memorization! You're helping me go down the path of better improvisation, which is what I've always wanted! Thanks so much for posting all the GREAT (and sometimes humorous) videos! I'm gonna check out your guitar wisdom as well! Love what you do!
