I was born and raised in st oswald flats..once the flats were knocked down and replaced by the health centre and Tescos the whole community disappeared.
Went to broadgreen infants and hung around hurst gardens . Me mate lived above the glass house. Born next to the original home and bargin. Gone down hill now , old swan will be like fairfield and kenny soon.
As a 77 year old born & bred in Old Swan trying to welcome all as a socialist my patience & understanding of letting every man Jack & his dog has been severely tested
After the tent section, Fairfield is behind you, you are in Stanley walking past St. Anne’s Parish Church and heading towards Old Swan. If it’s rough now, as you think, it’s because of the changing demographics as it was a lovely place to be born and bred. The start of the rot setting in was when nice shops were demolished to make way for the cold storage place just before Green Lane. Totally wrong place for it and I always wondered who gave permission for the area to the left of the Barclays Bank building to have that tatty roof attached to that beautiful brickwork.
The round building at the corner of mill lane was Sammy Glynns sweet shop. Also the area that is now st oswalds school was full of old small houses and a pub called the Ropers arms. The bodies you mentioned where found at the area behind and the side to the priest's house.
THE OLD BUILDINGS ARE AMAZING , THE CHURCH AND THE MAD HEAD STONES ARE TRIPPY FELLA , BEEN TO OLD SWAN LOTS , NEVER LOOKED AT THAT CHURCH EVER , ALWAYS ON A MISSION FAR TO HECTIC TO NOTICE
[UK Retired] Thank you for your nostalgic video-vlogging re: 'yesteryear in & around Old Swan!' - I'd a F. mate, she'd lived adj. to the LIbrary, in recovery tho a prelapsarian...oh for those calm, balmy halycyon days! I relish viewing your interjected vintage photos! - i've never see a photo of the old Cinema(s)!? - Onwards via the 62 Bus: Saint Oswald's always keeps immaculate gardens, grounds!
The adjacent, arch-windowed building re: ''work-in-progress'' [new build Apartments!] is the ''revamped'' St. Oswalds Church 'Social Club!' - I remember the 'Flats' built in a curved shape {on the site of the new build ''T Supermarket''}...below those Flats was an extensive 'Plumbing Merchant' [I'd a M. mate who worked there @1970s!] - The Glass House Pub site is [again] under 'consideration!?'
