Freddie Hubbard had the most swag of ANY trumpet player !
And that's what i loved about his playing.

Freddie's ornaments are things of beauty.

Agreement adhered to. I run my own small business - toiling 7days a week - I had music lessons as a kid growing up (Royal Conservatory). As an adult I bought popular sheet music and that was mu thing until last Sept when my friend nudged me to restart piano lessons with their Jazz / classical friend. My music world has opened up. Being so busy, it can be hard to sustain the practising on this new deeper musical dive. Your coaching and empathy and keeping it real is important to fan the spark in me that keeps away the frustrations and keeps me motivated and understanding the learning process. Seeing you guys is like checking in with some musical pals. Thanks for all you do.

Freddie is my favorite trumpet player, all-time - he ‘says what he says’ and that’s that. His work on Speak no evil is beautiful. Great pull, gentlemen

I saw Freddie live three times, always on fire!

Double Take and the Eternal Triangle were the Hubbard/Shaw album that came out.

I love how Adam unironically said the meme of “one of the rhythm sections of all time”

As a fellow Trumpet player, I can confirm that we’ll always be in awe of Freddie’s playing. I can do a pretty good intense 5 minutes impression of him, but to maintain that fire over hours/days/weeks/decades of playing is incredible. No one else has ever had that combination of technique/intensity/endurance on Trumpet, along with an incredible inventiveness.

Truly a master and for fire and intensity, he’ll never be matched.

Hubbard is the best for me ❤

Freddie was the sole horn on the date with the original Canteloupe Island. Playing Cornet!

Thanks for this guys--wonderful sensitive engaged reaction to an amazing performance by all of the masters on that stage. I was incredibly lucky to catch Freddie in NYC just about a year before the terrible lip injury that Peter mentioned. As in this video, he was simply astonishing both technically and musically. It was at the Blue Note and I'll never forget the utter incredulity in Freddie's voice when he called out the house from the stage: "Are you really having them push drinks while I'm up here playing?" Still cracks me up after all these years.

Turns out I wasn't ready for Freddie. That dude was on fire 🔥

A book can be and should be written on Freddie's mind-blowing solo, the pinnacle of trumpet playing.

I remembered Us3 sampling this, but I forgot about trying to play this track as a hippy jam song🤣. I think it maybe wasn't so great in that context... maybe we just weren't very good at it🤣

Agree mint add here, too!

I am a jazz player from europe and have learned a lot from your podcast❤

I miss this format of the podcast! More on the theory and technique, more useful stuff to learn and take away into our own practicing. You guys focused more on some relevant topics vs now with the albums it's more broad. It feels more like music history than music education. Hopefully you guys do more episodes like this again in the future!
