Another point towards horizontal is IT. If you need a character or two because you’re lacking in an element, you may need to wish for that.

Just to be clear, I don't think one way is right or wrong. Just want to highlight the strengths and weaknesses of both so you can make your own decision! and I feel like right now the discourse is one-sided towards getting more units, whereas a lot of people might enjoy going more vertical. But both are very valid for many players!

And then the lunar nation attacked

I counter that point by saying "nuh uh"

Counter Arguement:

Every Horizontal Investment is a Vertical Investment everytime you lose 50/50 into a Qiqi

I think the reason horizontal investment is more appealing to people (including myself) is because whether you’re F2P or F2P + Welkin/BP it feels a lot more “worth it” to have your money & time go towards a character that offers more new content than a constellation offers. Obviously there are exceptions but if you’ve saved up for a while, have 90 wishes… it’s a lot more enticing to go for a brand new character with new abilities, new ultimate, new playstyle, etc… than to just see “oh look my arlecchino hit a bigger number than it did before”

Spiral Abyss: You need the newest meta characters now!!🗣
Imaginarium Theater: You need to build every character from every element now!!🗣
Your wallet: You need to stop gambling now 😢

Having more characters keep the game fresh, if one team starts to get boring, swap teams.

I cannot afford to buy every character, but what keeps me playing the game is indeed the new play styles new characters can possibly unlock.

Jello - you have too many characters!

Imaginarium theatre - No.

I love jello on the shenhe segment: "and i have shenhe because shes hot. Hopefully she works with skirk but if not she can be a teapot accessory" 😂😂😂

@kuriboharmy 1 year ago

I think having 1 DPS of each element might be a better start point before starting vertical investment. The theatre can be pretty brutal if you don't as the common strat is 1 DPS and 2 to 3 dead weights.

@Shadeoflaziness 1 year ago

I think for newer players, expanding the character pool is very important. So that's also a point to the horizontal approach.

Youtube is funny for recommending me this when Lunar mode theater now exists

As a F2P player, while I don't believe in the shaming of whales, I tend to have more fun discussing and playing Genshin with other low-spenders or F2P players. As for Genshin content creators, they tend to be big spenders, which makes it very difficult to get an accurate understanding of how a character could perform on my account.

learned my lesson on vertical invesment. got c3 raiden & c2 nahida that i dont play anymore. even c0 can still clear imaginarium & spiral abyss. I realized i enjoy building new characters and choosing different characters to play every day or week.

I'm weird in that I never get burnt out from building new characters; seeing their numbers go up is as dopamine-injecting to me as winning them in pulls. Farming random stuff from mobs or the overworld is very zen to me, too. It does make me sad to bench characters - but I try to make sure I always have every character on some team or another, even if they're hodgepodge world teams I only use to farm Resin or overworld trash. I rotate which teams I run with either daily or weekly, and I look for unusual comps to fight the weekly bounties, and stuff like that. Having weaker teams to do that stuff prevents the Saitama-effect of one-shotting everything and making the overworld too boring.

One pro of horizontal is that you are less likely to get elemental cucked like I did.

See, I joined during the Raiden SHogun banner, and my favorite units were Beidou and Raiden shogun. So I invested in them as much as I could.

The problem? Fucking Electro Hypostatus was invincible to me and guess what boss you needed to beat to level your world... XD

@stribijev 1 year ago

The more you play, the more you shift from the horizontal to vertical investment. Also, the Abyss difficulty pushes towards vertical investment (I pulled for C1 Furina because of that.)

@pulledporc5334 1 year ago

The trickiest thing about vertical investment is not always knowing when your favorite characters are going to rerun so you can plan out building cons on them, but it is very satisfying to get that power boost on your favorite characters when you manage to save up in time for the rerun.
