RODI systems are simple, but a few smart upgrades can dramatically improve water quality, efficiency, and safety for your reef tank. In this video we cover essential RODI accessories including TDS meters, pressure gauges, booster pumps, float valves, and solutions for preventing TDS creep. We also show simple ways to prevent floods using leak detectors, shutoff valves, and automatic water controls so you never accidentally dump RODI water on your floor again. These upgrades help your RODI system produce lower TDS water, extend DI resin life, and make reef tank maintenance easier.

I use a dedicated gravel siphon to move the RODI water down to a fresh bucket under the sink where I mix in my salt or freshwater chemicals.
This works great for my 29 gallon reef and my son’s 20 gallon freshwater.
I always have 5 gallons of RODI in the sink ready to go, a 5 gallon tote with RODI, a 5 gal bucket heated and circulating with salt mix, and a 5 gal bucket heated and circulating with freshwater and remineralizer and Alk buffer.
It takes about an hour a week to do both water changes and reset the buckets.
