A seventeen-hundred-year-old Gnostic text describes a light built specifically to trap the people who were looking for the real one. Pistis Sophia is the oldest surviving map of a deception aimed at the awake — and it reads like it was written about the wellness market and the algorithm.
Pistis Sophia sits in the British Library as the Askew Codex, a Coptic
manuscript written down in the late third or fourth century. It has been in London since 1785 and almost nobody reads it. In it, the aeon Sophia looks up from the thirteenth aeon toward the Treasury of the Light, stops performing the rites of her own realm, and is hated for it.
A power called Authades emanates a lion-faced counterfeit and sends it into the chaos below her, where it shines like the light she has been singing to. She follows it down. She is stripped, and the matter taken from her becomes Yaldabaoth.
This video is about how that deception works, and why it was designed for the one being in the system who was straining upward rather than for anyone asleep.
It also covers what the text says about getting out: the thirteen repentances, what metanoia actually means, why Michael and Gabriel were forbidden to touch the darkness or to keep any of the light they recovered, and why the wreath placed on Sophia's head is a coronation rather than a rescue.
Along the way: how the Apocryphon of John tells a different version of the same fall, why the disagreement between the two Gnostic texts is evidence rather than a problem, and how Mary Magdalene, Salome, Martha and two other Marys do most of the scriptural interpretation in the manuscript.

That is a discernment test you can actually use. The counterfeit consumes you and leaves you needing more of it. The real thing hands back what was stolen, keeps nothing, and leaves you harder to steal from.
So — what was the counterfeit light in your life? The teacher, the framework, the certainty that turned up at exactly the right moment?
