Its a beautiful day! The sun is shining, the water is glistening, join us on the banks of the River Forth, a long way from our usual patches! We have followed the famous and very well trodden Fife Coastal Path - the route the links up very many of the places we visit regularly - to Limekilns, a small Village since at least the 14th Century. This is the first time we have visited this area and we plan to keep pushing outwards into new places for you to enjoy!
We arrive on the sandy beach side of this part of the Forth's foreshore and are immediately rewarded with a huge chunky piece of petrol blue sea glass! Amazing! There are some interesting pottery pieces around today - what do you think? Are we right, is this a chamber pot rim? Its very ornate!
We decide to move along into the old harbour - a semi-natural harbour built around a rocky fringe, providing some protection to boats moored on the foreshore here... We leave the golden sands behind and find ourselves in a shingle floored harbour, stretching off into the mud. After a wee while we make our find of the day - sure the push-up and pipe stems are fantastic finds, but we cannot do better than this 1620s Clay Pipe, complete with bowl - what an awesome find! We wanted to say thank you to ‘The Queen of Mudlarking’, Nicola White @nicolawhitemudlark for offering us a second opinion which confirmed dating of this fantastic find!
All in all, its a great day for sea glass - that amazing pink flash glass is something else! - quirky items on the shore - we're thinking about that pottery chamber pot again! - and the incredible 400 year old clay pipe! What a day!
We head back to the house to take a closer look at our day's finds and Nicole chooses a few special piece to make unique, one-off items of jewellery for our ETSY shop!
We hope you enjoyed today's video... Thank you so much!
