Discover the power of family bonds and love amidst a severe environmental crisis in our new documentary. It is the story of an elderly couple living in a remote mountain village, where a severe drought threatens their survival, yet the return of their son offers a glimmer of hope.
This film continues the personal story of Ivan (81) and Olena (83) from the village of Kolodne in Transcarpathia, Ukraine, located near the Romanian border.
❗ Turn on the subtitles (CC) — the film features the actual words of Ivan and Olena, translated into many languages.
📺 For a fully immersive experience, watch the film on a large screen or Smart TV.
In this episode (Part 17): A grueling drought has gripped the high-altitude pastures. Natural springs have dried up and the grass is gone, leaving Ivan and Olena facing one of their toughest seasons yet - they rely on neighbors, borrowing water and fodder to get by. Salvation and real help arrive in the form of their 36-year-old son Mykhailo, who has come to assist his parents.
Together, the family tackles arduous but essential tasks: Misha and his father descend into a dried-up stone well to clean it out, and later, they work together to organize the farm outbuilding. In between chores, Olena prepares warm, homemade meals, gathering everyone at the table for rare moments of family togetherness. As evening falls over the sun-scorched slopes, Ivan leads the livestock out, quietly reflecting on the devastated land and the fragile balance of life in the mountains. This story is a touching testament to filial duty, quiet resilience, and the unbreakable bond of a mountain family facing nature’s harshest trials together.
