I think the Nine'o'clock News must have been from Monday 2 April.

7.21 Monty Python sketch ...bloody Romans!!!

Rhoda! I just knew it. Can there have been many days in the late 70s when Rhoda was not on BBC 2? Presumably the final 1978 season. The opening few moments: a program on Walton Prison and then "something very bad having happened" followed by rostrum shots of a trashed Austin Allegro capture perfectly the bleakness of the UK in that era.

The standard of English seemed much better, also please can we get back to the news being read by someone sat behind a desk, looking square into the camera and reading without emotion or grimace?

I always thought that "Three Mile Island" might be a good name for a lifestyle brand. Well, at least if you were not alive in the late 1970s that is.

Don't worry - Maggie will be here in a months time!
