“i’m going to be so mad if carrie continues to pine after mr. big” BUCKLE UP, BABY

I saw a quote that read “if you’re feeling old at 32, you’re just in your first season of SATC.”

Carrie typing: and so I couldn’t help but wonder… does Mike’s mic know how to do anything but serve excellence

SOOOO glad you included the "its over, i told my wife" "who is thisss?" clip cause me and my bestie quote that at each other all the time

I am a fashion journalist and literally wrote so many essays about Sex and the City fashion. Here’s a fun fact for you Mike because I know you love those. During the first season of Sex and the City any designer clothing that is shown is fake because brands weren’t willing to lend out their clothes yet for the show because they didn’t know how big it was going to be. I believe the only brand that did this was Manolo Blahnik which is why they become a staple of the show in the end. During season two onwards they’re able to use actual designer brands but pretty much everything from season one is fake and some things going forward are fake as well.

SATC was an HBO original so they were allowed to do, discuss, and film things that cable network shows (such as Friends) were not. I think that allowance is what gives the series a 90s-transcendent quality. It definitely feels old, but not so 90s that it’s dusty. It definitely ages well because it’s realer, due to the different standards for shows on premium vs cable networks

i'm seated. the theater employees are scared and asking me to leave because "this is not a movie" but i'm simply too seated

Mike saying "I sort of feel like there's actually 5 women - the fifth being new york city herself" reminds me of Captain Holt pretending to be a sex and the city fan to break into the FBI in b99

‘I love her but she’s not beautiful, I wouldn’t date her openly’

shows a stunningly and conventionally attractive young woman

i remember reading somewhere that the girls each symbolize an aspect of womanhood (professional career, sex, family/ marriage) and carrie's search for them while Mr. Big symbolizes the city, as in the BIG apple, and the reason Carrie's so obsessed with being chosen by him is because she is obssesed with being accepted by THE big city.

also we don't know Big's first name until very late in the series bc he's THAT unreachable.

pd. great video, loved your comments, cant wait for u to watch the rest of the show

"I'm gonna be so mad if Carrie continues to pine after Mr. Big"
honey you've got a big storm coming

“He’s running around acting like a 15 year old, meanwhile retirement is right around the corner” the way I laughed out loud 19:06

You losing it over how Mr. Big acts is killing me…you’re in for a hell of a ride! So many iconic moments still to come.

Funny you should say Charlotte is the one who'd go for someone like Big, because she's sort of famously his type, but basically looks at him as a not very desirable version of her own type (already older, twice divorced, etc.) It was always interesting to me how the dynamic worked

You mentioned that this show sets itself apart from other sitcoms from the 90s. I think the filming and camera work is much more dynamic along with it not feeling like it was just shot on a set on a sound stage.

This first season is so good! For me Big represents NYC. Distant, cold, messy, gives you NOTHING back but it’s so fun and addictive

Realizing having a newspaper column in the 2000s is like having a podcast now 🙃

I feel in my bones that one day a recap of Desperate Housewives will drop.

And when it does, Mike will have reached his final form as the lore keeper of all the tea in the extended "crazy ass fucking show we all watched but deeply needed all of it's events put in perspective to see how fully off the rocker it was" universe

Nothing could have prepared me for the words "Imagine Mr. Big vaping“ in the same sentence, in that order, on my cellular device that i pay for
