Just to clarify a few things that I've gotten a lot of questions about:
I DO USE shampoo and conditioner! The gel is the only styling* product I use on my hair. I didn't mention which shampoo and conditioner I use because I'm currently using cheap drug store products that I've learned have bad ingredients in them, so I'm on the hunt for better alternatives! If you have suggestions, please share!
Also! I don't have a special sleep routine 😬 I just sleep on my hair down and hope for the best 😂 My hair looked decent the next day because there was somewhat of a cast still when I went to sleep. I wash my hair every 3 days or so, and never refresh my waves because I don't care enough to take the time 🫠 I embrace the wild/witchy hair look until wash day. And I thoroughly finger comb my hair and massage my scalp before washing.

As promised, here's how I make my own Flax Seed Gel and style my long wavy hair with it! 🥳 I was pleasantly surprised to see so many curly/wavy girls in the comments of my No Buy video! Please let me know if you try it & what you think! ❤

I recommend putting a sprig of rosemary which acts like an all natural preservative and has great benefits for the hair too

1/4 cup flax seeds
2 cups of water

Boil on low heat for 15-20 minutes.

Strain through the strainer into a bowl and then move it to the jar.

Can reuse, add 2 cups of water, and boil it again.

Lasts for 2 weeks. If its cloudy, then its spoiled. Discard.

Apply on damp hair generously, scrunch it, and let air dry or use diffuser.

Can use couple drops of essential oil in the gel if you'd like. (6:07) She uses lavender and vanilla.

Tip: put the gel into a bottle with a pump top. Less mess, and the gel stays cleaner without fingers constantly being dipped into it.

That's really interesting! I make my own flax seed gel very much like you do and my curly wavy hair loves it! Extra bonus for me, and actually the original reason I started making it, is that flax seed is incredibly good for your gut microbiome! I have several gut issues and my doctor recommended flax seed but it was too much for me in its raw form. However eating the leftover flax seed (after boiling it twice) was perfect! So now I make my gel and eat whatever is left over from a double boil. Basically I'm left with 5-6 tablespoons of seed + very thick gel and I'll add that to my diet a tablespoon at a time every other day. My bloating, cramps, gas, intermittent diarrhea and constipation and general gut troubles are gone! If I miss more than a couple of weeks they come back with a vengeance!
Does it taste good? Not really, but it's not disgusting and it's not a big deal to swallow.

You could also try Freezeing the flax gel in cubes. Thaw in the fridge the day before using.
Then there's no waste or going bad in the fridge :)

You can soak the seeds in water overnight and drain them in the morning. Works the same ❤

During cancer treatments - chemo made my hair fall out - all the drugs after kept the new growth falling out - i started using flax seed gel ( figured it out myself) make it exactly like she does - even same strainer.   When my hair started growing back the flax gell was the ONLY Product that did not hurt my scalp and helped me start to style my bald regrowth.  I will never go back.   I use coconut oil simmered with fresh rosmary and fresh coffee rinses twice a week to help my hair grow - and flax gel to style it.

I’m not sure if this is the right word but I feel like you’re democratizing beauty :) Meaning, beautiful hair is no longer some hidden pot of gold at the end of an unaffordable rainbow of all the products we’ve bought but that didn’t work…this is taking the power from an often exploitive beauty industry and putting it back in our hands, using the bounty of nature that everyone has as their birthright. I love this, I’m about to buy some flax seeds right now.

I simmered it for 20 and let it cool in the pot.  All the seeds had sunk to the bottom and the gel poured right off

I freeze the flaxseed gel in large ice cube trays and just pop one out and dethaw when I want to use. I also use them as egg replacers in recipes. 1/3 cup = 1 egg.

Consuming the boiled gel is also good for cardiovascular/cholesterol health. My grandmother always kept a jar in the fridge, consumed it daily, and lived until she was 95. 😊

I tried this gel on my hair and love the feel.  Also drank a very SMALL portion of this gel mixed with hot water to ease my coughs.  Someone mentioned this under COMMENTS and I am so grateful for this information.  I do this twice daily and noticed a difference after my first drink.
