In the afternoon I took a short tea break, with a sake lees cheesecake I had been curious about for a while. The tag on the tea bag said "CHOICE." On the back: "LIVE FULLY."
Then I cooked a proper Japanese dinner, for the first time in a while. Brown rice with carrots in a clay pot, konnyaku and nori shiraae, tuna and cilantro potato salad, autumn salmon, komatsuna with bonito flakes, and miso soup with barley miso from Kagoshima.
Six dishes. And I was the only one eating.
About 200 years ago, a French gourmet wrote, "Tell me what you eat, and I will tell you what you are." When I was younger, I didn't think about that much. Now I do. Not for anyone else — for me.
Hello, I'm Waka 🌿 I live alone in a small Tokyo apartment, in my 40s, single. Two burners, one clay pot, and dinner for one.
Maybe cooking for one isn't so different from cooking for someone else?

🍱 A Japanese Dinner — six dishes
→Cooking starts at 03:03
🍚 Brown rice with carrots (clay pot)
· Brown rice — 2 rice cups (gō)
· Carrot — 1
· Sake — a splash
※ With fewer side dishes, I season it with dashi and soy sauce. This time there were plenty of sides, so I left it plain.
🍲 Miso soup with fried tofu and aosa
· Usuage (thin fried tofu)
· Aosa seaweed
· Kombu dashi
· Barley miso from Kagoshima
🥬 Komatsuna with bonito flakes and soy sauce
· Komatsuna — just a quick stir-fry in coconut oil
🥔 Tuna and cilantro potato salad
· Toya potatoes from Hokkaido
· Cilantro from Chiba
· Tuna
· Soy milk mayonnaise
· Curry powder
🐟 Autumn salmon
· Bought on sale and frozen, then grilled to taste good
· One side on a paper towel to soak up the extra moisture, the other on frying-pan foil
🥢 Konnyaku and nori shiraae
· Konnyaku — boiled, with the smell and water fully removed
· Tofu — pressed under a weight to drain
· Toasted nori — soaks up any extra water
· Ground sesame — plenty
· Light dashi soy sauce — that's all, kept simple
※ Shiraae is often made with sesame paste, but ground sesame is easier!
