Matty's hot but his brain is what is most attractive about him. I love to hear his thoughts

I'm so happy that he mentions the "screaming teenage girls". Sadly there are so many artists these days that are bothered by their fans and even make fun of them. He acknowledges the fact that we are in the moment (at concerts) and we can't contain ourselves and the fact that he understands and is thankful, warms my heart. Fuck I love them.

i want to get this interview tattooed on my face

everybody's talking about how they would like to just have a long conversation with matty he's so smart and I'm like yeah he's so smart that's why if I did, I would sound so stupid he'd probably get pissed 😂

Does he really not know how smart he actually is

I always have had a huge admiration for his mind. He's the kind of person I can imagine to have the most immense understanding of how the world works and of people in general- It sounds cheesy, but I would absolutely love to hang out with him late at night and get drunk or high and talk about the universe.

"I don't fear pissing people off for being myself" ❤️❤️

"I think that the way that we all live our lives is that there's a spotlight on now, and the past is a kind of fuzzy memory, and the future is a kind of vague uncertainty. It feels like it could only have been a story; that I made it like this because this is a story. The 1975 is a story. The lyrics are a story. My life is the thing; it feels like a story that is constantly going on and I only realize it moments or chapters in retrospect.

"I don't know whether I'm actively trying to subvert pop music. Things with pop music for me: the reason that we reference the 80's so much is not because of particular bands or particular songs. It's because of a time when pop music wasn't so encumbered with self-awareness, and fear, and cynicism. Records like 'So' by Peter Gabriel were coming out, 'Tango in the Night' by Fleetwood Mac. Amazing records that could almost be considered as supermarket favorites, but also really, really credible forward-thinking pieces of work. That doesn't really exist as much anymore. The stuff that's on the radio and is massive is tarnished with a lack of credibility, because, fair enough, there's a lot of shit. People don't know what they're allowed to like because it's really difficult to see what's a genuine expression and what's just something that's a commercial statement. Cause that's the thing with pop music with me: even if it's on the radio, the only question I ask myself is 'Do you believe it?' because if you believe it, there's probably a genuine process of sentiment behind it.

"There's fans of ours that I meet that are far smarter than me. Of course they scream and they go wild, but if I was young and really, really excited and drunk and my favorite band was there, I'd be screaming and going wild. I'm not gonna apologize for embracing this kind of intense emtional investment that i get from people. I could be really, really concerned, and really wanna appeal to the kind of crusty, liberal, North-London kind of demographic, but trust me, if you do what I do every single night and you get the choice to play to that group of people, or a bunch of screaming younger girls, whatever, who fucking love you, you're gonna choose that one. It means more. It means something to those people.

"When I'm making a song, I'm not thinking about anything apart from the pursuit of it. It's not thinking about 'This'll look good with a leather jacket,' like, do you know what I mean? Music for me is a very, very pure thing. I like the divisiveness of my band. The idea of provoking ambivalence in somebody really scares me. That's what I fear. I don't fear pissing people off from being myself."

Matty is so deep and smart, but I have no idea what he's saying cause his vocabulary is impressive. .

Not only is Matty one of the very few artists who understand why fans love The 1975, he also does not generalise to just be "screaming fans" he knows there's more to fans than screaming.
I intensely listen to every word he says, every word Matty says becomes enraptured in my mind. I love how intellectually he speaks, he is so articulate and speaks with so much depth with such concise but massively effective words, he is a very good-looking man but his intelligence and articulation and explainations is the most attractive quality.
I would love to know people as prestigious and intellectual as this man, I'm sure he could teach me a lot.
I like to think I am articulate but whenever I listen to Matty speak and hear how he beautifully he intertwines his words with each other I quickly become insecure of my vocabulary.
My words are shit right now because I havent slept lmao, apologies.

I wish I could talk with him just 24/7! That man has such smart thoughts!

this interview changed me. i am a new person

Matty's glasses and leather jacket killed me AvA

I found this pretty deep

this is the most important interview of the 1975 that there is

I want Matty and Tyler Joseph to have a deep conversation

these are some of the most beautiful matty shots, are pictures avaliable in hd anywhere online?

i really frickin appreciate the acknowledgement, credit and validity the 1975 / matty give their fans. they know, they really know.

I went to that show at the rave and they were amazing. I also got the change to meet Matty and he was so much kinder than I thought he would be. I went up to him timidly when it was my turn for a picture and he just grabs he into a hug, while saying "Come here darling", and kissing me on the cheek. He is so genuine and real. The 1975 will always hold a special place in my heart.
