For an hour we were the better team. City didn’t have a shot until the 34th minute. Then Gravenberch got a second yellow that Iraola says was “never a yellow card, never”, Haaland scored three minutes later, and it was over.
And the referee? Chris Kavanagh, the same man who was on VAR when Rodri’s handball wasn’t given at Goodison in 2022, the season we lost the league by one point. Add Van Dijk’s disallowed header at the Etihad last season, and it’s four City wins in a row over us, with a big decision every time.
City are top with six wins from six and nine points clear, while their 114 guilty charges still haven’t been punished. “A generation of supporters cheated” said the banners on the Kop, and tonight it felt exactly like that.
