In the early 80's after watching all of the Bruce Lee movies I bought a pair of nunchucks and hit myself in the nuts so hard I was in tears.

I met Dan Inosanto 26 years ago at a seminar. He taught one of my instructors. Very cool man!!

If Bruce had made Game of Death the way he originally envisioned it, 🤔  would have been one of the greatest Martial Arts movies of all time

I met Dan Inosanto at a tournament one time and asked for an autograph.  He graciously agreed, but when I asked him to write "Take it easy on me next time", he just laughed and said "no way!".  A cool dude, but that would have made a great keepsake. :)

I've had the opportunity to train with Sifu Dan a couple times. Hes a really nice guy, and incredibly knowledgeable. He taught my master who's a full instructor under him. They are times I look back on and remember quite fondly.

When learning nunchucks a beginner should hold their weapon close to the chain until they become VERY comfortable with the motion and the various striking techniques. They're much easier to control that way, and the inevitable training accidents are somewhat less painful.

There is a really cool fight between Dan Inosanto and one of Lee’s friends before the battle begins.

The look on Bruce’s face when Dan busted out the nunchucks is the same look I get when I’m playing a fighting game as my secondary character and the opponent thinks they can beat me by switching their character, not knowing they just picked my main.

I will tell you the most valuable technique of all martial arts - "missing dialogue..."

Some people are so willing to test another till their willing to lose it all to the game of death Bruce Lee was just fantastic

small note: the guy in the light blue shirt is not bruce's student in the real version of the movie. he and the other guy are both members of a gang that force bruce's character to climb this pagoda. bruce had written this character to be more antagonistic towards to him to make for a more interesting dynamic in the group. you can tell by his body language that the guy can't stand bruce but has to put up with him to get to the top. you can see more of this relationship in the fight after this one. no words are exchanged but you can see that they aren't friends. very good visual story telling from bruce.

The Best Documentary Ever A Warrior's Journey! The Real Footage of "The Game Of Death" is so incredible!

In '74,  I was stationed at Camp Pendleton....when I saw 'Fists of Fury' for the first time.   There was a little theater in the neighboring town of Oceanside,  that used to run double-features all the time....of kung-fu movies.   There was always at least one Bruce Lee film.   The place was often packed with rowdy Marines.   I had a couple of roommates at the time & one of them had a pair of nunchucks.   Of course we were usually just cracking ourselves in the head with them.

The storyline of The  Game of Death had to do with Bruce Lee being in undefeated martial Arts champion, whose sister was kidnapped so that he would help  gangsters get what was on top of the Pagoda. The two guys were sent along to help Bruce Lee as well as keep an eye on him, but Bruce Lee ended up using them as Crash Test Dummies.

you are correct, they shot movies in Hong Kong at that time without sound. The dialog you hear is not by Bruce, as it was added much later and they did not have Bruce's recordings, mind you that he did not finish "Game of Death", except he did release a teaser trailer back when "The Way of the Dragon" was out in cinemas in Hong Kong... By the way, many thought it was Dan Inosanto who taught Bruce the nunchakus, but it was actually another Los Angeles students, Steve Golden (who is still alive by the way).

Dan the man.  My old MMA/Kali instructor trained under Dan with Paul Vunak and Jeff Imada

The fight with Kareem Abdul Jabar has some big differences.

hold the nunchaku close to the bottom for combat, roughly one inch from the bottom so that the end can be used to. the reason for holding lower is not just the range increase it is to create greater power on strikes and also to follow through correctly when striking. students study usually for one to two years of controlled striking, which is controlled striking the air before they are allowed to train striking a target, first an attached target then a fixed target as this creates correct control when striking. Once the nine strikes are achieved by a student and they can strike targets which usually takes around 4-5 years the student moves on to combination striking, usually starting with patterns then developing to mixed patterns and broken rhythm as Bruce Lee mentions here. Once that stage is completed a student will then move onto nunchaku sparing with padding. All of this should take about 10 years, at least this is the case in Lissajou Do Ryu. usually practitioners already have a background in nunchaku before the beginner stage. holding the nunchaku higher gives the practioner easier control of them however this way is used primarily for demonstrations and not for combat, and there are a lot of reasons why.

The one man John little is the only man allowed full access to Bruce Lee's library. He's a friend of the family. John Little recently authored the book Wrath of the Dragon: The Real Fights of Bruce Lee (released around 2023-2024), which explores Bruce Lee’s fighting history and documents specific  encounters like the Wong Jack Man fight. He is a prominent Bruce Lee historian and researcher, often interviewed regarding his findings.

Grandmaster William Cheung, my teacher's teacher, told us once that Bruce Lee called him in Australia to ask him to appear in Game of Death as the last opponent on the top floor. But William couldn't make it back to Hong Kong to help Bruce because William couldn't leave his job at that time.  So Bruce had to choose someone else. Bruce really respected Wong Shong Leung and William Cheung, and considered William Cheung to be the best street fighter he had ever met. Bruce mentioned this to his students in California; including Dan Inosanto. Dan Inosanto mentions this on the first few pages of William Cheungs book "Wing Chun Bil Jee: The Art of Thrusting Fingers". I show Inosanto's quote in this video:     https://youtu.be/jZ9eR3IsphM
