You're so right on the immaculate vocal control of Xiumin, not a lot of people give him credit for that 👏

Dino costumes are due to those two losing an earlier game.  This is the "punishment" LOL  So cute.

The way soon as Doh Kyungsoo opens his mouth every reactor says beautiful voice, great tone, wow  😂 PS yes those are lyrcis on the screen. Exo have over 460 songs 😂 They havent performed much together since military hiatus, so at this fanmeeting in 2024, they tried to sing as many songs as possible in medley style for the fans (each show had a different set, too). Completely understandable to use lyrics on the monitors because in the medleys they often cut certain sections out or jump straight to the bridge/final chorus. Would be difficult to remember all of that in such short amount of prep time, also 2 members were still in military then so they also had to sing other members’ lines that they dont normally do…

No sir in kpop it goes: Main vocal, lead, then sub vocal  EXO doesn’t have 1 main vocalist, they have three: Chen, Baekhyun, and D.O.

Exo vocal kings

EXO line distribution is perfect. You won't notice if a member is missing because the others can definitely take their lines. They even ask the others to do their line on the spot and it will still sound beautiful ❤

D.O. voice hits different ❤

You like harmonisation, also rap harmonizing with vocal, so EXO "Tempo" is a must
PS: your bias's name is "Baekhyun" plz react to his solo work

The best thing SM did as a company was debuting the 9 members of EXO together. Idk what they were thingking but they ate with their lineup. EXO's vocals are on another level, most of Kpop groups have 1 main vocal and the rest of the members are lead vocalists or rappers, EXO has 3 main vocalists, even their rappers are in the melodic rap side since Chanyeol is more of a singer than a rapper. BTW the one you like is Baekhyun, he's a very consistent singer, with a great technique and powerful voice, he still takes vocal lessons because he really likes to improve. He has a solo career with a strong base on R&B, the industry knows him as the R&B King since he's very good with that genre. Baekhyun just had a comeback and as always, he ate with his album. Most of them are soloists, all of them have differents styles.

Next video would be the EXO-Accoustic Session + Lady Luck + What If (Japan). Here you can hear their raw vocals plus the harmonies. Also they are all complete here 9 members. Thank you for this wonderful reaction 😊

Really loving your EXO reactions so far! I would like to give you some recommendations in order of what I like (ONLY LIVE PERFORMANCES):

1. EXOPLANET #4 - Diamond + Coming Over + Run This + Drop That + Power : This is more of a hype/party vibe performance, but also a lot of killing parts
2. EXO - Accoustic Session + Lady Luck : More on the calmer side, focused more on vocals since it's accoustic
3. EXO - MAMA + Monsters + Wolf : One of the most artistic and epic performance I've seen in K-Pop
4. EXO - Ko Ko Bop + Growl + Dance Battle (Elyxion) : Honestly I like 'Growl' remix in this one

EXO Ballads:

1. EXO - Miracle in December (in Japan) : EXO but only the Main Vocal Line Chen, D.O, and Baekhyun in action
2. EXO-CBX - Cry & Paper Cuts : 2 different performance but I recommend watching both at once (*CBX stands for sub unit consisting of Chen, Baekhyun, and Xiumin)
3. EXO - Cosmic Railway (2018) - EXO-L Japan : One of my fav ballad track from them
4. EXO - My Answer (in Japan) : Only D.O, Baekhyun, and Suho present in this performance but theye still killing it!

Each EXO member got their own voice style? but when they sing together its just fit. Even their solo's are diverse music genre.

In K pop, a lead vocalist is actually like the second best vocalist. The main vocal is the individual considered to be the best vocalist. In the case of EXO- there are THREE main vocalists. And they’re all pretty fantastic vocalists- considered the best vocal line of 3rd gen. So glad you’re checking them out!

Kyungsoo (D.O.) is known for his beautiful vocal tone and insane vocal agility. I actually enjoy his solo work the most out of each EXO member cause he doesnt stick to one genre, he really can do everything. Even in his debut solo album, he sang in 3 languages (Korean, English and Spanish) &sounds fluent in all. Definitely recommend checking out his solo work. He's actually releasing his first full solo album at the end of this month/ beginning of July. He is also the main vocal of EXO that can put some grit in his voice, which i love (his growl in the one live  performance of their song growl is iconic in the fandom)

The company EXO is under (SM) is notorious for not letting their artists write and/or produce easily~ SM contracts famous writers and producers to make songs for them, and any of SM's artists that also want to have their work considered have to prove themselves. SM used to have a yearly retreat; on the retreat they had music workshops, and at these workshops their artists that wanted to write or produce had to really show talent in those fields. And even if SM was willing to give the artist a shot, they'll get the same prompts all the contracted writers and producers get, and then their song goes into consideration against those songs.

There's also a little more freedom sometimes for solo albums and subunits, but even that comes with lots of meetings where they might be encouraged to not~~~

Most of EXO have gotten to take a swing at writing and/or producing, including some songs for EXO; some even almost exclusively write and produce all their solo music^.^

BUT you were right that the writers and producers that SM hire very much often craft songs with EXO specifically in mind!~ And then there's things like EXO's song "Tempo" which, after it's release, the makers of that song got requests for more songs like it for other groups, but turned them down because they thought 1. they could only make one "Tempo' & 2. only EXO could execute a song like "Tempo" the way it was meant to~~~^.^

In Killing Voice you called out the dino with the hood up, aka Baekhyun, for going directly from giggling to starting off one of the songs in head voice. He is my bias but everyone in this group is ridiculously talented.

They were playing before and one of them lost, so he was punished by wearing a dinosaur costume and choose another one to wear it with him, so there were two punished by wearing dinosaur costumes lmao 😂😂

26:30 I love your analysis here. The flip from chest to head voice is almost unnoticeable because it was done really well. I’m so proud of our all-rounder ace, Xiumin.

8:20  the song you are referring to, Playboy, is such a legendary track.  Not only do EXO do an unforgettable live performance of it, it was written and co-composed by kpop legend Jonghyun, member of Shinee and a brilliant songwriter.

ETA- in terms of writing, the majority of EXO tracks (they have ALOT) are searched out by the A&R team at SM and given to various groups depending on style/concept etc.  (Groups under SM famously sometimes switch tracks too).  However, the members have participated, in lyrics especially, over the years.  Chen has written for a few EXO tracks (including Touch It, which you heard at 10:55).  Lay and Chanyeol are both prolific songwriters and musicians, especially for their solo work.  On Baekhyun's most recent album, he participated in writing and/or composing on all the tracks.  So yeah, it comes out especially in their solo tracks, but they do write some things for the group as well..

Thank you for the detailed attention you showed. They deserve it because they are on a league of their own. Yes, their discography is super versatile and that is one of the many reasons I am a huge fan of them. I can listen to more than 30 songs of them one after the other and not get bored which I cannot say for any other artist as at some point their songs will sound alike. That’s never the case for EXO. I will highly recommend that you take a deep dive into their music because their b-sides are a treasure trove. You’ll be blessed with some amazing music and vocals if you do so. And, just in case you need more, all of their solo albums are fantastic. In their solo albums you can see their individual artistry shine . Just as an example and if you like R&B old school and want to be sent to heaven for a couple of minutes react to one of the members’ Baekhyun (the guy on a 🦖 costume, your bias, and one of the best current vocalist on Korea who has broken sale records 4 times in a row with each of his solo albums) titled “All I got” and you’ll have an idea what greatness awaits you 🙂. Enjoy.
