This was the race where everything finally clicked. Here’s how I turned a muddy regional championship into my best result yet.
My breakthrough race at the East Region Cyclocross Championships in Diss Cyclocross Course turned into my best ever result. After a week of rain and a heavy downpour on race morning, the course became a true mud challenge. I made a strong start, choosing to run key off-camber sections where others were still trying to ride, moving from 18th to 10th within the first few minutes.
By the end of lap one I was in 8th place and held it for the entire race, battling closely with strong riders including Andy, Ian and Wayne. Smart line choice, committing to running the slow sections and staying consistent in the deep mud helped me secure my first top 10 finish at regional level.
If you enjoy cyclocross racing, muddy conditions, race breakdowns and on-board cycling footage, this video gives you a full look at how I raced the East Region Champs and achieved a result I’ve been chasing for a long time.
