Hi Dave, New Subscriber. I really appreciate your video on the tuning of a Stanley 60 1/2. I'm near 70 and I finally get my own woodshop! I found a 6 pieces set of original Record Marple set of 6 chisels that turned out to be almost brand new on Offerup for $30. Since I did that I thought I'd stick with the Record Marples (Pre Irwin) for the planers. One that I got was a Record 60 1/2 and I was excited and took it apart and couldn't put it back together again. Thank God for your video. lol I also picked up a Record #4 and #5. I will watching more of your videos to become a little more planer savoy. Thank You
Very nice. I’ve had one for years. It’s a worker, but only until recently I began using it often. So, I have taken an interest in really learning how to tune it up and get the most out of it. This was very helpful. Other YouTubers look down on this model.
Thanks Dave, nice tune up, the shavings speak for themselves ! I realised watching this my 1980s Stanley UK 60 1/2 has a threaded rod braised onto the sliding mouth plate and the brass knob is female rather than male, not a problem till you knock it off the bench and the braising fails. Luckily I was able to repair it, but it's not so pretty now, still works well though and that's the main thing !
