Sometimes a video appears on your subscription feed and you just know you're going to rewatch for years.  Thank you for all your videos! You explain so well and make it so clearly visible so i can actually see, learn and apply to my own knitting.

I have been a life long beginner who never knew techniques for knitting properly until I found Norman’s YT channel.  He is the best knitter, teacher, and video producer for those who desire to learn this wonderful craft.

I was picking up stitches for a sock right before playing this video, and when I got to the corners I was having issues picking up the small stitches and thought "What would Norman do?" and did the KLL & KRL to close my corners. What a surprise when I hit play and you mentioned using those increases for picking up stitches on socks! Felt like a ripple in the matrix for a moment. Thanks for being the angelic knitter on my shoulder, Norman.

I taught myself to knit in the early 1960s. We didn't have YouTube or TikTok so if you wanted to know how to do something, you had to do trial and error or have a lot of money to go to school.  I did trial and error and figured it out just looking at it. We didn't have money so I got other peoples' old sweaters and with the help of mom, I took them apart, so I had balls and balls of yarn. I saved up and bought my first pair of knitting needles. They were medal. I still use them to this day. That's when things were made to last. I already learned to sew, so I figured out how many loops (stitches) were in an inch and I went from there. Got pretty good at it for a kid. I know my winters were warmer. Then I started studying the cables. Fell in love with them and figured them out and they came out pretty good. When I started doing odd jobs for money, mohair sweaters were a fade. I bought my first mohair and had a sweater like all the rich kids, and they never knew the difference. I made all my own clothes so I had any fashion they had out of old clothes but they looked store bought, which was a big deal then. My mom encouraged me from age 8 on to do whatever I could to make my life better. It's gotten me through some really hard times. Single mother with 4 kids and they always looked nice and had warm sweaters and coats. Your videos are wonderful. They are giving me the techniques I never could afford as a kid. You are genius in what you do, and I so appreciate your sharing. Thank you.

Maybe the biggest tip for all of us is to learn to read our knitting. I still have a long way to go, but it is so helpful in nearly all aspects of what you're trying to figure out. (Also helps in copying a little piece of knitting you've seen. 😀)

My favorite knitting technique is watching Nimble Needles. 😂 Learning a lot!

As a fairly confident knitter, I always appreciate learning new and possibly better ways of doing things. I just pick the technique that works for me. Thank you, Norman for sharing your techniques.

I haven’t seen the German twisted cast on in purl before!  Quite impressive. Every time I do a German twisted cast on I have to watch a video and practice.

These are all wonderful! Some you've just taught me, and I've been knitting for over a decade, thank you! My contribution to the comment tips is this, which is just a simplification of what I learned from queenieknits about knitchener stitch/grafting. It works on stockinette and garter stitch with the usual setup, and technically any stitch that repeats row by row vertically. It really shines though when you use it on  rib, since it will work for any rib sequence (as long as the fabiric is worked in the same direction to avoid the half stitch jog.)
First, forget about the "on" and "off" mantra. We know it has to be the first stitch in each two-stitch sequence to come off, since we aren't leap-frogging or cabling our stitches here. Second, forget about trying to memorize the knit-purl sequence for a while and read the knitting as follows: Think of the tapestry needle as a knitting needle, slip the first stitch in each two-stitch sequence, knitwise if you see a knit stitch facing you, and purlwise if it's a purl stitch. For the second stitch, do the opposite: insert the needle knitwise if it's a purl stitch and purlwise if it's a knit stitch, then pull the yarn through. To remember: we just read the stitches as we get to them, always matching the first stitch and not matching the second one. And that's really it!
