Welcome aboard the new Australind! In this video we travel from Perth to Bunbury and back on Western Australia’s brand new Australind railcar set, exploring the train’s features and the towns, scenery and railway history along the way.
After more than two years away, the Australind is back with new locally built Alstom trains. Join me aboard “Marley” as we head south through Perth’s suburbs and into the green winter countryside, passing historic stations, farming communities and reminders of the South West’s timber and railway heritage.
On board, we’ll explore the seating and facilities, visit the buffet for one of the Australind’s famous toasties, and try out the free Wi-Fi. We’ll also spot the retired Australind railcars at Pinjarra and discover some of the stories behind the places outside our window.
After arriving in Bunbury, we’ll take a quick look around the city, including its former railway station, before catching the afternoon train back to Perth. With affordable fares and a journey of around two and a half hours each way, does the new Australind make a worthwhile day trip?
We’ll also take a look at:
• The new Australind railcars and their connection to Perth’s C-series trains
• Seat features, USB-C charging, reading lights and tray tables
• Luggage storage, bike spaces and onboard accessibility
• Buffet food and drinks, including the toastie verdict
• Fares, booking arrangements and connecting public transport
• Pinjarra, Brunswick Junction, Harvey and other towns along the line
• Bunbury’s station location and getting into the city centre
• The return journey and my overall impressions
