I have translated some poems of Puskin in my native language Sindhi

Useful overview, thank you. It is not possible to overstate how monumental this work is, as a masterpiece of verse AND as an expansion of Russian literary language. Reading this work is a long term project for me as a student of Russian language. For those English speakers reading it in Russian, the literal word-meaning translation by Nabokov is an excellent companion work in lieu of a dictionary. There’s nothing like the electricity of this work in its native language but I do note there’s at least four translations that capture the sense and rhyming convincingly.

Tchaikovsky's masterful opera, based on these verses, is powerful indeed. The waltz and polonaise, choreographed well, add the social context elegantly and highlight all the character's actions. The oft-excerpted and much-loved Letter Scene is one of the composer's most inspired achievements.

Thanks for this review! I just finished reading this novel and I was blown away by it! I went with the Falen translation.

You should read James Falen's translation. It is much smoother written and closer to the Russian original. You can find it in audio book on YouTube.

Onegin is one of these stories that I know without having read the book. I have seen it in opera and ballet, but not in the original form. I finished yesterday Fathers and Sons by Turgenev, with a main character named Evgueni who believes in nothing spending some time in the countryside at a friend’s place. 🤔Where did Turgeniev get that? 😄

A bit late to the party, but, according to the translators of the Portuguese edition I read (one of them is Russian), bears in Russia are strongly associated with marriage.
