Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce now own one of the most fascinating historic homes in Greater Cleveland — and the story behind this Bratenahl mansion goes back more than a century.

Travis Kelce purchased the lakefront estate known as *Moyenage* for approximately **$5.35 million in March 2026**, setting a record for the highest recorded residential home sale in Bratenahl, Ohio.
And while having Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce establish a home here is obviously exciting for Northeast Ohio, what really caught my attention as a Cleveland real estate agent is the house they chose.
Moyenage is a roughly **21,000-square-foot historic estate sitting on about 3.5 acres along Lake Erie**, only a few miles east of Downtown Cleveland. The property includes eight bedrooms, multiple living and entertaining spaces, a guest cottage, heated pool, wine cellar, theater, gym, sauna, five-car garage and some incredible views over Lake Erie.
But the modern amenities are only a small part of the story.
The history of this house stretches back to Cleveland's rise as one of America's major industrial cities.
The estate is connected to **Jay Collins Morse and the Pickands Mather Company**, one of the companies heavily involved in the iron ore and Great Lakes shipping industries that helped build Cleveland's economy during the late 1800s and early 1900s.
The home also has ties to Cleveland architect *Charles Schweinfurth* and architect **Jarvis Hunt**, and its design reflects the enormous wealth that was being created in Cleveland during that period.
Inside, the home still has many of the features that make historic Cleveland architecture so interesting, including extensive walnut and oak woodwork, leaded-glass windows, massive fireplaces, intricate detailing and a dramatic staircase featuring carved lions on the newel posts.
And the history gets even more interesting from there.
During **Prohibition**, the home's third-floor ballroom was reportedly used as a speakeasy.
Later, the mansion was owned by **George Martin**, who became president and chairman of Cleveland-based Sherwin-Williams.
In 1947, inventor *James H. Rand* purchased the property and reportedly converted the former gardener's cottage across Lake Shore Boulevard into a laboratory where he worked on some of his inventions.
Then in **1962**, parts of the mansion were used as a filming location for the CBS television series *Route 66*.
So before Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce ever entered the picture, this one Cleveland-area house had already been connected to Great Lakes industry, Sherwin-Williams, Prohibition, scientific invention and American television history.
More recently, the estate went through a major renovation after being purchased in 2023.
The restoration kept much of the home's historic character while adding the amenities expected in a modern luxury property. Today, the estate includes a home theater, game room, billiards and poker areas, wine cellar and tasting room, fitness center, sauna, heated outdoor pool and a restored two-bedroom guest cottage.
And then, in 2026, Travis Kelce purchased the property for $5.35 million.
As somebody who works in Greater Cleveland real estate, I think this is a genuinely exciting story for the area.
Cleveland has spent years investing in its neighborhoods, downtown, lakefront, cultural institutions, restaurants, entertainment districts and surrounding suburbs, yet the national perception of the city often doesn't reflect what actually exists here today.
A property like this also shows a side of Cleveland that many people outside Northeast Ohio simply never see.
Bratenahl sits just east of Downtown Cleveland along Lake Erie, yet parts of the village are filled with large private estates, historic architecture, mature trees and lakefront properties that feel completely removed from the city only minutes away.
Welcome to Northeast Ohio.

Very cool to see her get access to a true Gilded Age mansion. She loves these kinds of homes.
