The old Khyber of the 70s & 80s before the renovation had a very fine Continental menu too.... their Shrimp Cocktail, Lobster Thermidore & Chicken a la Kiev fondly called the Bomb sp due to its shape & there was a baked fish that was totally awesome....None of which made it to the new menu. The Chicken Shashlik was amazing too. In its new avatar the Chicken Kalmi Kebab, Tandoori lamb chops, mutton Rara & Maa ki dal top the list. Btw Maa ki dal is best eaten with crisp tandoori rotis or soft Rumali rotis as the mood takes you. Khyber is a great place to bring overseas guests, largely due to its ambiance & mildly spiced food.

Sir, I think you will surely live more the 100 years. You look so happy eating making us happy to watch you the food I cant yet afford.

Many years ago Khyber had done some unauthorised construction and a very honest BMC Ward officer named Dr Pinto had demolished the unauthorised construction. It was the news of that time. Those were the good days of BMC with honest, hardworking officers

Khyber is really good restaurant in Mumbai. Also worth  considering Trishna and Dum Pukht in ITC Grand Maratha Sheraton ❤

The Big three ( Anjali Ela Menon, Parmeshwar Godrej and M. F. Hussain) have done wonders to the ambience !! The paintings are one of a kind !! And Kunal ne toh khana khake char chand laga diya....❤❤

Khyber is an experience to die for. The food is divine and the ambience is stunning. It blows all of those overrated pretentious Michelin star restaurants abroad out of the water. Been going there since I too was a kid and I’ve always left with a big smile on my face. Absolutely heavenly food.

I recommend Kunal to try out Peshawari too at the ITC Grand Maratha.

As you mentioned iconic restaurants serving for generations one that comes to my mind is Shree Ram hotel at Mahalaxmi,Jacob circle, you must visit there for their sweets, samosa and amazing food

I was very lucky to work along with p. Godrej madam as an assistant interior designer for this project. It was a fabulous experience for me. Till today I regularly visit the restaurant with my grown family. Thank you for covering this.

Once again the same old story: Kunal has been frequenting Khyber since his childhood😅 I recall there was a Khyber at Delhi's Kashmiri gate in my childhood spent nearby. Their tandoori murgh was so yummy. At that time chicken was not so common in houses. We would eat mutton every Sunday, but no chicken. I have always maintained that the hallmark of a classy restaurant is its consistency- therefore people don't look up the menu. They know dishes by names and taste. So a good restaurant is as good as its kitchen. In every city, oldtimers would swear by old eateries and you cannot make them eat anywhere else. It takes years to build up the reputation. Delhi's Embassy, Kwality, Gaylord, York etc are such iconic places. One place, I don't get tired of praising is Dadar's Pritam, the dhaba. What food, what portions  what hospitality. So each one of us has memories of childhood eateries where our father, uncles, aunties had taken us and those memories have stuck ever since.
