5:20 Regarding "Generic Name" → "Generic Drug (GE)".
[Generic] In the case of a prescription of Amlodipine Orally Disintegrating Tablets 5mg, 1 tablet once a day, dispensing a change to the generic drug Amlodipine OD 2.5mg, 2 tablets, without a query is basically "not possible". This video was created for newly graduated pharmacists, so it did not include information about drug costs (drug prices).
When dividing drug specifications, if the "new drug cost" exceeds the "original drug cost," a query is required.
Upon further investigation,
considering the administrative notice issued on March 15, 2024 (Reiwa 6), "Handling of Changes in Dispensing under the Current Supply Situation of Medical Drugs," practical changes without a query become slightly more flexible.
According to the above administrative notice from the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, changes in dispensing are possible even if the drug cost increases. However, this is limited to cases of "supply shortage," so generally, a query is considered necessary for the change in dispensing mentioned at the beginning. Thank you for pointing this out. Hello everyone!
Today's topic is the basics of prescription modification.
This is something that isn't often taught in university.
When I was a new pharmacist, I didn't understand prescription modification at all 💦
Thanks to that, I struggled in the field, but I don't want you all to repeat my struggles. If you go out into the field without understanding, you'll panic, and it could easily become a cause of an incident.
To be honest, there are even veteran pharmacists who don't understand the basics of prescription modification. Lol
Among pharmacists, there are some who try to learn advanced techniques without knowing even the most basics, so when I was a young pharmacist, I decided, "First, let's master the basics!"
To learn advanced techniques, you need a foundation as the basics. If the foundation is small or fragile, it will all collapse. In fact, I think it's enough to just focus on building a foundation during your early years as a pharmacist. Whenever I try to learn how to apply what I've learned, I stop and ask myself, "Have I properly mastered the basics?" Dispensing modified prescriptions is one of those things.
If I could say one thing to new graduate pharmacists, it would be, "Master the basics."
Now, let's keep learning today! ✊🏻
