Acme threads use a 29° angle (based on imperial units).
ISO metric trapezoidal threads use a 30° angle (based on metric units).

I am curious to learn in regards to the clapper box set-up for that horizontal fed spline.

I love to see how your brain works.  The indexing arbor for the splines is a great idea, and as you say it can even be done with simpler tooling than what you're working with.  If no shaper was available, it could even be used on an arbor press if some way of clamping the ring in place on the arbor press table was available.

Very clever solution to cutting the spline Michel. I think this is more than half the fun of being in the workshop,  just finding ways of doing things. Cheers Nobby

Great solution to the spline Rusti, I like the simplicity. For your lathe surface finish, it seems to be when you are close to the tailstock each time so could be bearings in your revolving centre, or could also just be some play in the saddle at that point on the bed. Also, harmonics always vary with distance away from the chuck even if you are using the tailstock, might just be some resonant frequency of that particular length of bar. Cheers, Jon

Never thought about using a nut threaded on the end for indexing before.

It was good to see your travelling steady in use. Thanks for the practical solution for achieving the tip width on the threading tool by using the vernier caliper!
The 3 morse taper seems more in keeping with the size of the lathe. I was thinking about getting the tailstock quill on centre height. One trick I used was bore the morse taper say 0.25mm off centre and then during assembly roatate the quill until centre height is achieved. The keyway can then be cut in the appropraite angular position. Just an idea - but too late for you!

That's why you really need a super rigid lathe setup to use carbide inserts without the finish issue overwise you get unpredictable finishes you have a nice finish 1 minute and a horrible finish the next minute
