Ah, the Seven hills Art College. I was working at Griffith University when they took over the campus … as well as the Conservatorium and Mt Gravatt Teachers Training College.  I visited the Camp Hill pub quite a few times back in the day. This was interesting!

The tracks in Old Cleveland Road have nothing to do with the Belmont tramway.  Those tracks in Old Cleveland Road are not railway tracks but tramway tracks.  You can see the difference on the tracks.  The tracks are relics of the Brisbane City council tramway system.  The tramway tracks have nothing to do with the Belmont Tramway.  Otesan and Skyline drive were separate roads and both were
two way roads.  Belmont Tramway ran in between the two roads which is why there is why there is a grade.

Near the Camp Hill state school Just behind the scout hall there is a cutting for the tramway

The old alignment of Old Cleveland Road followed Narracott Street, then up over the hill to an intersection with Creek Road south of the current intersection. This new intersection and the cutting through the hill were made in the late seventies when Old Cleveland Road was widened in preparation for the 1982 Commonwealth Games. The Tramway alignmentwas largely buried by the construction of the new outbound lanes. Prior to this, an old timber bridge pier was visible next to the bridge over Bulimba Creek. The formation of the old turning triangle at Belmont was still visible until about 1993, when construction of a set of townhouses obliterated it.

So there was a train then a tramlines, wow

Oateson Skyline used to be two separate streets.

One side being Oateson St, the other Skyline Drive.

But which was which?

When I was a kid I lived at carina I got told the tracks got left there because clem jones the mayor at the time lived near there and wanted the tracks left there

I grew up around Carina Heights/Carindale so it’s great to see the history around that area, plus it’s good to see places that bring back fond memories.

Just after the mayfield station on the downward slope to carina, the original lines were still visible in the early to mid 1960’s

The original camp hill hotel was a large wood hotel, usually heaving on Thursday to Saturday nights and Saturday mornings with all the workers living in the area, including my father.

Having done a lot of work with Brisbane City Council,  I often wondered why certain streets were made the way they are today. You have made sense to the mysterious road network that I traversed for many years now.

That Tramline would work well today with the new Bus/Trams
