A 'But Wait' on postmodernism would be great!

@TisiphoneSeraph 10 years ago

Any of Foucault's stuff honestly would be cool to see talked about in an updated "multimedia" setting.

I'm so freaking excited for the rest of this series :D

I don't know much theory, but I'd love to see one you tackle a media theory that relates media to human bodies. Like, our bodies as a thing. I'm not sure if I'm making any sense here, but I've heard vague mentions of something like that before. Anyways, awesome video! Definitely wanna see more "But Wait"

Yes! Nailed it!
also, i love under the radar ideas, great for learning new things :)

I'm excited to see more theories from the Toronto school being explored if you ask me, such as Harold Innis' ideas of time bias and space bias for example!

I loved this - hope to see more But Waits!

I would agree that each website is not a medium in itself, but obviously, different websites have different degrees of "hot" or "cold".

I'm really interested to see you tackle Henry Jenkins and his theories on convergence culture in general, and fandoms in particular. Like, I was basically up to my chin in all that in my undergrad thesis, so I don't really need it, but I want it. lol :D

Video has "hot" in title, so Youtube has something that looks like it could be pornographic in "up next".

Idea channel has on more than one occasion resulted in new books added to my dissertation

It would be awesome to see a But wait... About Gilles Deleuze's philosophy and Merleau Ponty's too.

That t-shirt makes me so happy.

Webcomics are a unique medium; gif images are a unique medium; online video is a unique medium. Clearly, the Internet is a medium for different media.

Under the radar philosophy:
-Soren Kierkegaard's views of Existentialism. So often we quote Nietzsche (not counting every song that contains "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger") because he's secular and "God is Dead", but we forget that Kierkegaard came years before him. I read through Nietzsche, but Kierkegaard was the philosopher/theologian that I liked better (I was much more pious at the time than I am now). Just offering.
-In Interpersonal Communication I really loved (pun not intended) hearing about John A. Lee's Love Styles (or Love Color Wheel). Just more fun suggestions if you want them.

In regards to the internet as a single medium versus each site as a medium, perhaps a third way is to see the internet as a place that hosts multiple distinct but related media. Podcasts are certainly different from videos, from message boards, from image galleries, etc. There is perhaps, however, a certain range on the media temperature scale that they all inhabit due to the similarities that the internet allows/enforces on all these media.

I watch TV and movies on my phone and stream to my HDTV using Netflix over the Internet. My mom watches sometimes the same things at her house using cable television on her old CRT television, both broadcast and on demand. Are these same shows and movies really changing in temperature depending on the device used to watch them, and if so, which one is hotter?

Mike's point about why video games are cold was kind of the point I was trying to make. It's interesting to contrast the work an audience does to create the sensory experience of a story as opposed to the work done to create the narrative experience of a story. D&D requires both, but in some ways, it seems like open-story video games like Mass Effect give us nearly all the sensory experience and yet leave the narrative experience to us in a way that film could never hope to.
