I feel like im the only one who thinks sasuke shouldve stayed SINGLE!! he said it himself that he was going to spend his ENTTIIIRE life just trying to repent for his actions, so no matter who he ended up with, it would not be fair to them! Theyll always end up being treated like accessories to his character, which is something i see a lot of sasuke fans do when shipping, who ever they ship with him, be it naruto, sakura, karin, hinata or whatever(god knows why some of those exist) said characters will always be dumbed down to fit his life and ideals, even fans cant come up with a proper relationship for him, just keep the poor guy single istg😭😭
NaruHina - Payoff with no buildup. 10 yr + series and all you get is a couple of moments of Hinata pining with no reply from Naruto until the movie that takes place after the series
NaruSaku - Buildup with no payoff. You can see the growth in both characters. The change in the way Sakura treats and responds to Naruto + the comparisons to Kushina. This is all nice, but ultimately leads to nothing. Sakura is still in love with Sasuke...for some reason idk.
SasuSaku - This is toxicity in its purest form. Why does Sakura even like him? He's a POS that has tried to take her life. Multiple times. Why does Sasuke even like her? He made it clear he wasn't interested in her, and then out of nowhere at the end of the series they're married and he's in love with her???
"What I do has nothing to do with you." in quote, Why does he have a family? those are his words to his kid, Sasuke made it clear that love is the last thing on his mind.
I never understood why they have gotten together! he tried to kill her. And even said that he has absolutely no reason to love Sakura. He sees no reason why she would love him!
I’ll never forget it. On Kishimoto’s Thank you page, a father wrote to him and said “You gave my daughter a bad message. We are done with you and your work.”
i want to make a small point about female characters, their relatability and how that ties to kishimoto’s lack of respect for the women in his ships:
its really telling that the only couple that people collectively agree was well written in naruto was minato x kushina, one that was essentially co written by kishimoto’s wife as she contributed to writing naruto’s mother. she has given birth to a child at the time and projected a lot of her feelings into kushina’s character. in this instance, a female character was being written from a point of understanding and sympathy and that results in an interesting character. you can feel the love that was put into her short appearance.
and it’s this that exemplifies the issue that plagues every ship in naruto. its not being written by someone who cares for his female characters as individuals. kishimoto admits to being dismissive of them in his writing, because he has no love or sympathy for them and their stories. sakura and hinata are women created in the eyes of a misogynist, who mostly delegates them to moments of emotional tension where they exist to support men’s stories rather than have their own. whether they must be rescued, comfort their lovers or fawn over them from the background, they’re not allowed to truly enter the story, but just revolve around the men who do.
therefore, we are literally missing half the equation when it comes to these ships. naruto and sasuke didn’t grow a relationship with the respective woman in their lives. sakura and hinata were just beautiful objects, given to them as prizes to milk the naruto brand for a second gen.
i say this as someone who loves sakura and hinata, probably more than i do naruto and sasuke, their romantic endings prove nobody writing them respected them or respected women in general.
Sasusaku makes me really appreciate all of the non-romance series where the dude actually… cares about his love interest, wants to see her do well in life, and enjoy being around her. Like, the things I just said is the bar for any real life relationship, but Naruto out here doing limbo in hell.
It's ironic that Sasuke, in ignoring Sakura, was basically in control of the whole 'relationship' and acted accordingly or didn't at all. Either ignoring her or keeping her at arms length the entire time before sliding off the deep end. Sasuke was playing for keeps without compromise while Sakura couldn't understand the game with him and never did. She should've given up and become a true medical nin, possibly ending up with someone else but not Naruto. She damaged that ship to severely for it to work even with Naruto's unyielding kindness and always giving her the benefit of the doubt along with a shoulder to lean on.
Thank you for putting all of my feelings about SasuSaku into this video! Sasuke was constantly distant and disrespectful to Sakura, and she just kept taking it. Even NaruHina is healthier than this trainwreck.
As someone who is a Sakura fan and doesn’t like Sasuke, I also despise this ship. This ship reduces Sasuke to an absent, unpredictable, brooding loner who at best tolerates his wife and at worst seems to actively despise her, therefore reducing Sakura to…the despised wife in question. That’s her role now. She’s the token “he married a woman so he must not be gay after all” wife married to an obviously gay man who doesn’t love her, doesn’t respect her, makes time for their child once every few months, does nothing to support either of them, and leaves her and her child alone for long stretches of time in a village where their marriage is a joke that everyone is in on. That is a fucking miserable existence for everyone involved. There are moments of happiness for this family, but they’re so fleeting and surface-level that they somehow only make it seem worse.
If Kishimoto and co had any ambition or bravery, they’d lean into that and pivot Sarada’s story into this girl trying to make her way in the world and find a sense of stability, peace and happiness that isn’t dependent on her unpredictable family situation and parents strained sham of a marriage. That would actually be an interesting story, but no. We get Sasuke pretending he’s straight, Sakura pretending she’s not dying inside, Sarada pretending her parents didn’t name her “salad” and Boruto fighting Fortnite characters. Yay.
1:09 think it’s because, unlike Sakura, Rock Lee and Naruto were able to move on. Sakura rejected them both. But Sakura’s crush on Sasuke became one of her character flaws, while Naruto’s crush on Sakura was treated as character development because he finally moved on from her. Also, Naruto and Rock Lee were never treated by Sakura the same way Sakura was treated by Sasuke. Liking someone for their looks at the beginning is not wrong. But for Sakura, almost half of her character revolves around Sasuke So when she truly has feelings for him, at least the reason why she likes him should be strong especially when Sasuke keeps giving her reasons not to like him Unlike Sakura, Naruto has strong reasons to care about Sasuke. First, he understands his pain, or at least he tries to. Sasuke almost died for him. He shared his lunch with him even though he could have been disqualified He saved Naruto many times He called him his best friend And when he had the chance to kill Naruto, he chose not to. After Naruto learned the truth about Itachi and lost Jiraiya, he understood even more how Sasuke must have felt. Of course, Indra and Asura’s chakra also played a huge role in their bond But when it comes to Sakura, we never got a clear manga panel showing her deep point of view about why she loves Sasuke on a deeper level. That’s why, in this context, she gets more hate compared to Naruto and Rock Lee. It feels like her character shows less self-respect! The way the story handled Naruto’s crush and Sakura’s crush is interesting to me. They both started in similar situations, but the outcomes were different. One shows growth and moving on, while the other shows staying and not letting go. In a way, it feels realistic because both types of outcomes exist in real life.
I like sakura but I feel the same when I saw her cut her hair in the Chunnin exams I was so happy I thought finally she's gonna be the badass girl that gets over the crush she has , but I was disappointed , like a LOT , her character revolved a lot around Sasuke and that's what destroyed her development and that's Why many people hate her , cause let's be real , you can't keep loving someone sho tried to kill you and just doesn't care care you , I also wish she really fought Sasuke 1v1 ( the episode where she wanted to kill him ) , it would've been incredible to see her fight for the village and put love in second place for once , we also could've seen her Fighting abilities when she's alone ( I know Sasuke is stronger ) but we could've seen her strength / byakugou seal / tsuyu summoning and a lot more , in that episode I wanted to see Sakura as a real main character for once
