21,738 views

We’re diving into one of the wildest horror films in recent memory. Join Syntell & Mikel‑Claire as they watch Barbarian for the first time — a twisting, dark, and deeply unsettling ride through secret tunnels, monstrous legacies, and truths too horrifying to ignore.

Tess (Georgina Campbell) arrives at an Airbnb she booked—only to find it’s been double‑booked with another man, Keith (Bill Skarsgård). Despite the weirdness, she stays. But when odd noises, locked doors, and hidden basements emerge, she uncovers a labyrinth of horror beneath the home. As Tess and AJ (Justin Long), the house’s owner, venture deeper, they confront a monstrous presence known as The Mother, whose origin traces back generations of abuse and dark secrets. Barbarian is about warped legacies, trust betrayed, and the monsters born from within—and it surprises you at every turn.

Cast & Roles:
• Georgina Campbell as Tess Marshall
• Bill Skarsgård as Keith Toshko
• Justin Long as AJ Gilbride
• Richard Brake as Frank (in flashback)

The brilliance of this script was making most everyone believe that Keith was evil. It followed all the tropes and then spun you on your head

@Awhnutz 1 year ago

The way they were saying “go get the police” in the beginning and I’m like “oh just wait till you meet said police”

Do I look like a monster? Yes you look like pennywise without the makeup

My favorite part of Barbarian reactions is people calling Tess stupid, meanwhile making 50 wrong predictions before the first half is over 😂

@daijiahs 1 year ago

The best thing they did with the movie is make THE Penny Wise Keith 😭😂 and the horror movie victim Justin Long the actual evil one 🤣

Zach Cregger has shown with Barbarian and Weapons he's a master at creating dread and tension and subverting expectations. I can't wait for the next thing he makes.

She done said “I don’t trust it” like 40 times

the character tess keeps going back to the house even though it has only brought her pain
that is most likely akin to going back to a toxic relationship
it looks dumb and it’s obviously bad, but a lot of times it’s a form of self sacrifice for an undeserving person
hence her trying to stay away from the marcus character
by the end she reclaims her agency and says “i can’t go back.” a full arc!!!

The over analyzing in the first act was absolutely hilarious.

Between this and Weapons Zach knows how to do that empty black portal to perfection. It's such a chilling visual.

This movie was like an homage to " Psycho" , it started with a subplot that made the second half a whole different movie , this guy completed the big 3 in the new generation, you got Aster , Eggers and this absolute mad lad .

I remember seeing this in theaters. Damn it was insane. I remember the tension, and then the tone shift had me utterly howling with laughter. Justin Long’s character measuring the very obvious torture room was pure ironic perfection.

Tess is fascinating to me. She is established in an early convo with Keith that she has a history of caring too much too fast and not being able to leave things alone even when it would be good for her.

I also thought Cregger’s approach of writing a first act where someone ignores every single red flag to be a fascinating premise that had my stomach in knots from the tension.
