The Duke Sent His Wife Away for Being Common — Then a Blizzard Left His Mother Begging at Her Door

The Dowager Duchess of Kelderby let down the carriage glass just far enough to be heard. "Drive on, Crowle," she said. "The tinner's girl can wave at somebody else." At the gate of Linwood Lodge, Rosenwyn Pascoe stood holding a lantern, trying to warn the coachmen about the sky, while Lady Evadne Colbrook laughed and the Duke of Kelderby sat silent across from his mother.
At Colbrook Hall that evening the Dowager raised a glass to the next Duchess, once the tinner's girl was got rid of, and forty guests drank to it. Octavian Wolsey, the Duke, did not lift his glass and did not put it down either. Now the coachman says the sky is the colour of an old penny, and there is only one road home, past the very gate they mocked. What will Rosenwyn do when the snow closes it?
A Regency romance about an overlooked duchess, a duke who let his mother send her away, and one long winter night. This is original fiction: every person in it is invented and a grown adult. Subscribe to The Overlooked Duchess for more Regency stories.
