Gin clear doesn't do this river justice and the huge wild brown trout make for an epic adventure in this truly remarkable location.

Pretty poor form from the guide, I would have felt pretty uncomfortable if I was the client in that situation. Stunning river and another quality video, I love the fact you’re still smiling after it all.

Amazed the guided party did not take into account (a) you were there already, and (b) you had hiked in.
That is crystal clear alright, I have seen such water in both islands, it is amazing when you realise you have to be well away from habitation and farming to get that clarity.

Amazing video

Thanks for a great video, I am in the process of planning my first trip to New Zealand. Your walktrhough on approaching individual fish is invaluable to someone like me that hasnt faced that before.

Thanks Ainsley. Yeah I love those long walk in trips myself too. Those damn fly in guides and fishermen are always in the back of your mind…when on such a hike. Cheers.

If the guide was a member of the NZPFGA then you should lay a complaint. Behaviour is against their code of conduct. Should have worked out a way to share the water. Great video. Water clarity is unbelievable. Love your work!

Well this is fabulous, for a second there I thought I had shuffles off my mortal coil.

So good bro.

I reckon the first dry I present this season will be the spider. Imagine getting a terrestrial eat in October 😁

“We were here first” was a very confrontational opening gambit by the guide. Something a bit more diplomatic and accommodating would have been far better, and certainly less embarrassing for the client. You did well to keep calm!
I recognise the hut, first time I stayed there nearly 20 years ago they still had sacking bags stretched across the wood to sleep on! The river looks different to the river(s) I fished when I was there though.

Sandflies - Nu Zuln's BEST KEPT SECRET!!
It's a bit corny helicoptering in. WIN from Montana...IAN the superannuated dentist...
Compared to this guy tramping in, they just come across as - and I borrowed this from living in Aus - CHICK'S SHIRTS
This was a beautiful place!
ps Cute mutts

Definitely when you eventually get there if it's where I think it is. The hut gives it away :) It gets a lot harder at 70. Hope it wasn't our local heli that dropped them in. Injured myself halfway last year and had to bail out. Be trying again this year with company this time.

Under Nz legislation, guides fall under just another angler. As a guide myself for many years, I always worked with the other anglers so we all enjoyed the river. There are two banks. If I was ever in a hut, I would always give walkers the bed as they earn it. It’s just having respect for others.

A guess we'd better get used to it once DOC starts leasing out reaches for the "economic benefit".

@nickoinc 2 weeks ago

As a guide, Yeah stuff the guides. Personally, the company I am lucky enough to work for does our absolute utmost to avoid doing this to folk who have walked in. Communication and respect is the key in these awkward situations. We were here first is fubar. Respect for your attitude on this one. Better than me when roles are reversed.😎

Does it matter who was there first?

@paulgillard2258 2 weeks ago

That’s why it’s the greatest country on earth. Long may it stay that way..

Just tell guide to pull his head in making money out of our heritage i have no time for them especially if they use a helicopter

@LionelCoombs-th2dn 13 days ago

Nothing worse than someone jumping in front of you I would have got in front of them and stayed in front of them I have zero respect for fishing guides and lazy rich people
