After watching this video, I copied your "poor man's lathe", but instead of buying chair leg parts, I used two 6 inch pieces of 4x4. I turned them on my wood lathe to be 3 inch diameter, then formed them into cones with one end being 1 1/2 inches in diameter. While it was still ion the lathe, I bored a 3/8 inch hole through the center of each cone. Rather than strapping the drill down as you did, I asked one of my friends to run the drill for me. It was a little bit jumpy, but with some light pressure while using a random orbit sander, I was able to tame it. With as jumpy as the columns were, I didn't want to try sanding by hand. The columns were not bent, they were fine, I think the holes I drilled in the wooden cones were not properly centered. It's too bad that Johnson's Paste Wax is no longer made. There are a few sellers on Amazon that are selling two, 16 ounce cans starting at $249, that's absolutely insane. In it's place, I use McGuire's carnuba paste wax. I am restoring 3 drill presses, all at the same time, and it's my first time restoring any tool, I very quickly realized how addictive this newfound hobby can be. Two of these drill presses are 150's, a benchtop model like you are doing in this series, and a floor standing model. I am also restoring a benchtop 100, all three in pretty much the same color scheme as you are doing, but where you used brown, I am using red. Your videos have been a MASSIVE help to me.

Jeff, I just got one of these drill presses, and I'm enjoying the series so far. the poor man's lathe is straightforward and elegant! I know your rugged face is the moneymaker here, but I'd still be happier to see you in some kind of mask or respirator while you're aerosolizing all that gross shit on the pole.

In the back of my shop was a floor model of one similar to the one in your video.
It's fairly rusty, but after some penetrant, it all works.  Your series was a home run for me!
Since I 'm retired, I started restoring my drill, so finding your series was a gold mine.
I have a question.  My drill has the turned headband, but also has a screw mechanism to raise and lower the head on the main shaft/stand.  I haven't seen this anywhere else but definitely factory.  Do you know anything about this screw attachment?

Excellent instructional video.I saw a new replacement jet drill press column and it was primed on the inside. My thought was to clean
/wire brush the inside, duct tape one end and fill it with a quart of rustoleum red prime, roll it around, then turn it upside down and let it drain and dry. Reclaim the primer. Then finish the outside. Thoughts?

I just acquired a floor model and will be using your videos to help throughout the resto.  My column has a closed end at the top. Any recommendations to substitute the all thread running straight through?
