10:36 I must have stick drift the way I’m constantly depressed

2:35 I remamber that when I opened my Steam Deck to replace the nvme, there was an easter egg on the bottom flex cable that it had written "beautiful" on it

Imagine a cat jumping up on Hughs table with all those parts.

Imagine following this tutorial and halfway through you haven’t check the steam deck control ID and you don’t know if it is A or B and also haven’t transferred the os yet 😅😅 10:48

0:54 you can easily do that with graphical tools though, guides just tell you to do it in the terminal cus its easier for them

2:10 bigscreen beyond did a cool teardown video on their headset

It's amazing to see you tear one of these down! I've enjoyed mine since the 1st batch of shipping, and it's a 256gb model. Maybe I'll upgrade it one day, it looks easy enough to do!

That upgraded Steam Deck has more storage than my laptop. 😂

There was an Etsy seller that had some custom face buttons that gives a PlayStation d-pad and symbols; if I were to overhaul my launch Steam Deck, I’d want to have those added in

I love the repairability/upgradability and Linux community contribution aspects of Steam decks.

As a mechanic, this type of situation happens a lot to me, but on a much larger scale of course. One thing I learned very early on, if you need more room to work you need to make that room, and removing an extra part often takes less time than the struggle of working around it.
I personally would have removed the heat sink and put fresh thermal paste on to save the headache of struggling with the connector. Admittedly, I don't know if the heat sink can be removed at that point, but my experience working on other electronics like laptops and other game consoles tells me it should be possible.

12:20 I think it doesnt have a bios battery, so it did memory training after the bios reset since you unplugged the main battery (which is then the bios battery)

In case someone wants the command to clone:

sudo dd if=/dev/nvme0n1 of=/dev/sdX bs=4M conv=fdatasync status=progress

don't forget to replace the above names (taken from the vid) with the actual names of your drives.
bs=4M should increase performance
conv=fdatasync ensures the data is actually written before it is over

ideally, use ddrescue instead of dd, as it allows to restart in case of an error - and is specifically intended for cloning partitions.

This is sick bro, i like the translucent casing. GIves it a real retro vibe

Id def love to have one of these is a full translucent purple.

I essentially did the same mods to mine years back, but I used the JSAUX case in translucent white color and installed the DeckHD screen. I later added the GameBoy style buttons and dpad from DeckButtons. Im getting the new replacement OLED screen for high refresh rate and HDR on my LCD deck. Now if only someone made a high capacity silicon carbide battery. 😅

You can totally clone the drive from the GUI without needing the command line. It's just a lot easier to tell someone to type a command than to guide through an app, so most guides just use the terminal.

And yes, the keyboard is bad. It's being worked on, and a replacement version will come out soon.

A black front and transparent back would look better. Its a good idea, I will do this to mine

There will be an OLED Screen upgrade coming out soon called the decksight. Maybe something else to look into? 👀

I also did a frosted clear case & kept the stock black buttons for contrast. Great choice imo.
