Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) returns for his most dangerous case yet in the third and darkest chapter of Rian Johnson’s murder mystery opus. When young priest Jud Duplenticy (Josh O’Connor) is sent to assist charismatic firebrand Monsignor Jefferson Wicks (Josh Brolin), it’s clear that all is not well in the pews. Wicks’s modest but devoted flock includes devout church lady Martha Delacroix (Glenn Close), circumspect groundskeeper Samson Holt (Thomas Haden Church), tightly wound lawyer Vera Draven (Kerry Washington), aspiring politician Cy Draven (Daryl McCormack), town doctor Nat Sharp (Jeremy Renner), bestselling author Lee Ross (Andrew Scott), and concert cellist Simone Vivane (Cailee Spaeny). After a sudden and seemingly impossible murder rocks the town, the lack of an obvious suspect prompts local police chief Geraldine Scott (Mila Kunis) to join forces with renowned detective Benoit Blanc to unravel a mystery that defies all logic. Academy Award–nominated filmmaker Rian Johnson writes and directs Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery and assembles another all-star, award-winning cast.

The idea that the graffiti on the tomb was done by Martha and Samson to justify putting up a security camera is nice, but in fact it cannot be true. At this point, Martha had no plan to kill and resurrect Wicks. She only formed the plan after she had found out that Wicks was planning to steal the diamond.

hawkeye finally got to personally kill thanos 😊😁

left out a clue. the final line Jud said to Cy, "i hope you come back to the church. your inheritance is in Christ." and indeed eve's apple (Cy's inheritance) is in the wooden Jesus Jud made for the church

5:35 but also the diamond inside the throat = Adam's apple ?

There's a gap here. The aim wasn't to pin the blame on father Jud specifically.
The reason the murder is constructed as a locked room mystery is to make both the death and 'resurrection' look miraculous. While Martha's plan can survive Father Jud being blamed (since he can be framed as 'demonic') it's not ideal because it pulls the mystery element out of the event. The wolf's head isn't a plan to frame Judd. It's a symbolic tool to connect the murder with satanism and the concept of a 'fallen world'.

When Cy told Blanc and Jud that he’ll show the recording of the meeting with Wicks, the first people who were trying to intervene were Nat and Martha. Especially telling for Martha because there was nothing in that recording that would be potentially incriminating her.

8:19 when Blanc says "This was dressed as a miracle", its a hint that the dressing of Wicks, the miracle, is vital to understanding the twist

I think the pink diamond is also a nod to Glass Onion’s pretend murder mystery where Birdie Jay’s Ren diamond got stolen

You can see Jud’s name the way you described, or as “Judas Duplicity”.

Samson didn't set off the squib remote. That was Dr. Nat.

Well, we'll wait for RDJ for the next Knives Out then

I am trying to remember but didn't the tomb graffiti and samson deciding to do the security camera happen before Martha decided to Kill Wicks? 2:36

@Doctor2706i 8 months ago (edited)

I kinda inferred that Jud’s last name sounded like duplicity, as a hint to how he was lying to Blanc at first

I think Sampson was innocent of murder or even planning the murder. His only mischief was staying in the coffin and then punching Father Judd. (And in his defense he only knew Martha had a plan and that he needed to help).

He didn’t set off the remote. He didn’t know Monsignor Wicks had been murdered. And he didn’t know his pending resurrection was a ploy to ruin Father Judd.

All the killers in the Knives Out franchise have played Marvel heros. Darn! Did notq see that coming. Nova Prime and Hawkeye killed Thanos.

The name Wicks. Akin to wicked. And he wants to ‘burn it all down’ and destroy the people who followed him. He is the source of fire.

another thing about The Murder of Roger Ackroyd is that the POV character is also the person that committed the crime, with sly wording of certain things hiding his actual actions, which Jud does in the written description of events that Blanc calls him out for.

0:30 the gloves are somewhat a stretch. You will always want to wear gloves when cleaning silver or else you could just not do it in the first place anyway
