I had a 3v with 226,000 miles, I bore scoped the cylinders and there was zero ring wash and the cylinders looked brand new I was shocked, zero oil consumption either. I slapped a melliing high volume oil pump, cast iron tensioners and some new timing and valve train components on there and it's so smooth you can't even tell it's running. That thing will probably last another

I had the 5.4 2v in a Econoline van. The van had 462k miles when I sold it, and it still purred like a kitten. It just needed a transmission, and I was getting new truck fever, so I sold it

I had that same exact motor in my 2000 Expedition and loved it. Why they have to mess with a perfect motor is beyond me.

I own a 2006 F250 with the 5.4L 3V, great engine, tow a 8000# 5th wheel and it does good, but I change the oil at least every 3000 miles or twice a year and always keep an ear out for noise.

I currently drive two different cars with 2v Modular engines. A 96 Mustang with the 4.6 and a 2002 F150 with the 5.4. Both run flawlessly.

the more complex a system is, the less reliable because there is so much more to go wrong, if only because not every component that comes off a production line is able to be full quality tested and so they fail prematurely. the odds of that happening increase with the number of components and the cumulative time the system - in this case engine - is running.

Iv done lots of timing chain sets on these engines, I always put in a Melling high pressure high volume pump on, it cures all the internal bleeding issues and the phazers work after that.

I rebuilt my 2007 5.4 and the problem was also the roller followers on the right bank that’s why upgrading The oil pump is crucial like he said because it the ford 5.4 oils from the left side to the right side. So I put in new cam phasers and chains also upgraded to a melling oil pump. purs like a little kitten! That was in 2022. I’m still driving the truck today.

I had my 2012 expedition 5.4 ran me 250,000 trouble free miles. I was religious on my oil changes tho. Every 3,000 miles with Vavoline full synthetic

I currently have a 2006 super duty f250 4x4 with the 5.4 3v, has 296k miles on the original drive train, we tow a 4 horse gooseneck and othe heavy tows and it my daily driver. All I have done is upgrade the coil packs and replaced the cam fallowers befor they fail, 5w30 synthetic high mileage oil chang every 3k miles. See is still running strong.
