I totally agree. I owned a 60 series 2H Land Cruiser back in 1985 toured the east coast all the way to the tip of Australia on the telly track and that thing didn’t miss a beat 450,000 ks and only changed glow plugs once. Now I got a 2010 Dmax 4x2 with lsd 4JJ1 motor on 365,000ks and all I’ve done is a harmonic wheel balancer. If I could I’d buy an 80 series and put a 4JJ1 motor in it to get the best of both worlds. I can only speak as I find,  but after spending several years driving around the Empty Quarter servicing gas wells the Landcruiser was the only vehicle in our large fleet of 4X4s that we felt confident we'd get back to camp without any problems.

guy at work has a 1.5 cab dmax ute, clocked 360k kms before its first mechanical repair, a new alternator.....when i see him next, i will ask what else has he fixed on it..

I own a 4JJ11-T3 Isuzu. It was an import from Dubai came with 60,000 km. I've used it as a daily commute and in Kenya. The engine and automatic transmission are robust and it's always good to drive. I don't tow and it's serviced every 7000km using 5w40 oil.

Thank goodness sake, eventually someone with  a honest review regarding what to do and to buy and what not. Thank you for this informative video as I do agree with you 100%. Even here in South Africa I have had this conversation with people numerous times.

Probably a reason why the Australian Army rebuilt the LandRovers they once ran and used Isuzu engines.

My Landcruiser 150 is the best working vehicle I ever had taking me everywhere, you don't need to buy others than a Land Cruiser to pay the half of the cost of a Land Cruiser 300.

I have since owned an Isuzu for 6 years!  

I can honestly say, the Isuzu saved my life, literally.

Totally love Isuzu product, the attraction come from the Holden distributed Jackaroo.
They were horribly underrated, but as good a road vehicle & as capable off road as the Prado.
Our original 3.2L V6 petrol towed our camper into the centre of Oz, then back out to east coast and around the nation back to the east coast with 5 occupants on board, horribly overweight, but it took it all in its stide.
Then came our second Jackaroo, it had the most shunned Isuzu engine installed in a Isuzu product, the 4JX1 4cyl diesel. This vehicle served us well, towed our caravan on many return runs the entire east coast, did it with ease, took us on many desert outback routes (no van attached) however eventually the hydraulic engine oil hi pressure catpillar fuel injection system did have issues, but once one understood the workings it was repairable and I kept it going for 15 years but eventually parts availability ended our relationship.
Next was our 3.5L V6 petrol. Why?. simply because the Isuzu build quality was so darn good, they were huge inside, comfortable seating and with features others didn't have. It met it's end, written off after an incident with a very secure fence post that jumped out in the path of my wife 😂😂
New vehicle required but try as we did, couldn't update to MUX as it was too confined, far less interior size.
Tried 4.2 TD GU Patrol, it was a guttles kettle, then into the VDJ 4.5 76, it was so small, handled horrendously, after 3 years we despised it, we eventually settled on the last of the Y61 ZD30 GU.
It has a horrid reputation, but we find it so satisfying, holds the road well, tows well, so refined compared to both the TD42 and VDJ 76.
The Jackaroos were deceptive in how large they actually we're, 150mm wider than the Prado in the rear cargo area, the GU Patrol is the same internal rear dimensions as the Jackaroo, who'd thought that, but the Jackaroo was better accessed due to rear barn doors opening wider to access that same internal dimensions.
Loved those Isuzu built Jackaroos, shame they pulled production of them.

AND Has made more diesel engines than any other manufacturer in the world. My first 2014 Dmax was 10 years old and not a single breakdown or spanner put on it. Got a new one 2 years ago love it but hate all the driver assist crap. Best vehicles ever.

I thought the 4m41 in the Pajero would be worth a mention seeing it came from a truck and it is very durable. Shame there not bringing it back in its original form.

I am really enjoying your channel. It ticks a lot of boxes for me. Here in NZ I have owned and run a rural workshop for more than 4 decades. The legacy of the truck designed Isuzu engine is proven. I often get asked by clients what to upgrade to. There is no easy answer. I am not confidant with small displacement, high output engines. Not comfortable with 0w20 oils. I guess I am stuck in a pre 2015 knowledge base. 🙂

I live in South Africa and have an Isuzu KB300 DMAX (as shown in my avatar). Bought new in 2007, just as the new common rail version came out. Mine is the model with the 4JA1 engine, which still has the low pressure diesel pump. The engine was mildly chipped about a year after purchase. Power was increased from 95 kW to 113kW, torque from 290 Nm to 360 Nm. Around ten years later, the chip failed and I had a new one installed by the same guy who fitted the original chip. He still had my vehicle's power figures on his computer and compared the power figures with original values (before chip). Power figures were exactly the same, and that after 10 years of chipped towing, including some very tough trips through Namibia. With the new chip, the engine now delivers 115 kW and 400Nm of torque. At just over 200 000 Km, oil consumption is still as the day it was bought. On one trip in Namibia, the one (outer) rear wheel bearing failed, but since the Isuzu have 2 bearings on each hub at the rear, it kept running and took us home. I do have a temperature probe installed to monitor EGT, make very sure the turbo runs at safe temperature values, do oil changes at no bigger than 10000km intervals. Yes it does not deliver the most refined ride but it is tough. Next year it will be 20 years old, I am busy planning our next trip through Namibia.

I have an Isuzu KB300 2013 model, 2x4, clocking 300 000 now, not a single issue. I will also vouch for Isuzu, Fuel efficiency between 10 - 12 km/l. I feel that is very good for the body and engine size
