What I love about this video is that you don't actually try to make the game less deadly. You don't try to change the underlying systems of a deadly game, but rather create a sense of connectivity and legacy as a means to improve the players' relationships to death.

This is what excellent guidance looks like.

'Here may be found the last words of Joseph of Arimathea. He who is valiant and pure of spirit may find the Holy Grail in the Castle of aaarrrrggh'.

I was really expecting for a "start with full HP dice" video. Your ideas surprised me and are great adds to the game. Thank you!

In the Book Ronin (Mork Borg conversion for Japan Edo Samurai setting) there's a mechanic were when your character dies they instead go to a place called the "Yomi" to fight a special Boss 1v1. All their heath comes back and they have one shot to beat this yomi boss and if they do, then they come back to life with full HP and gain Honor.

Also if your character dies with high Honor then the next character that player makes will have +1 to their starting stats.

The idea of "The chronicler" in the context of Lamplighters made me inagine the "company" to have it as a sort of "term of service" to always write down the most important parts of their ongoing quests in case of things going south. They are professionals after all. Love your points btw and will absolutely write them down!

Love this kind of suggestions/fixes! Thanks
I would love to know more of your west marches choices, setup up, etc....

Great video, suggesting new approaches aside from mechanical (+HD, +stat, +talent, etc.) buffers. It helps keep the friction of death into the perspective of new opportunities to play.

3rd idea, I definitely did that without realizing it. I play solo, but my first party was all from the core book, everything. But then I started branching out a little at a time. If I end up dming shadowdark, I will definitely do this as well. I also do it with spells. Your starting spells have to come from the core book. But if you find scrolls, they might be from chubby Funster’s novice magic or something

Great ideas! not only mechanically but also very engaging worldbuilding ideas.

1:00 Nice! I've been thinking about that idea. Im working on a more modern game so I've been referring to it as "The Agency". Hearing you talk about it like this helped to solidify tge nebulous ideas I've had. Thanks from Tennessee!

Incredibly good ideas, immediately implemented a few! Thanks!

A couple of these, the company and the rogue-like in particular, I was already planning go using in my upcoming campaign.

My table is completely switched over to Shadow dark and I like some of the stuff you're proposing especially the idea of racial options opening up as they progress. Some of the stuff you've done I've done myself without even thinking about it.
So it's really refreshing to hear someone else doing the exact same thing.

I made crawler groups like guilds, and there are rival crawler groups and they're all vying to get into dungeons and get secret stuff for people. So they end up kind of working like gangs and the group that everyone is a part of is called the wyverns. There are other groups like The slayers, crown breakers, ax hammers etc so they end up having a huge gang mentality. Perhaps what I'll do is elevate the wyverns up to a group that has a more clandestine purpose kind of like how you describe the lamplighters. This is my first time watching any of your videos and I'm definitely going to subscribe keep up the content and Shadow dark stuff is just icing on the cake at this point

These are great ideas! I love all 3! We love seeing the new content from Elder Goblin Games! Good stuff.

This is amazing advice, thank you!

I love the chronicle idea! Its amazing. Reminds me of like hunter's journals from Supernatural or the Watchers Diaries from Buffy.

i love that chronicler idea, nice!

I'm eager to hear of this podcast! I'll def be listening!

Great video!
