This hits home. I spent a month in Seim Reap this year 2026. I'm just now going back to work. I find myself wondering about returning to work. I didn't try to save money there but at the same time I live semi frugal. and only spent 1600 bucks +- 100 bucks. this included scooter rental , hotel, buying a cheaper phone that is unlocked. I agree with the 600k you mentioned. I'm 58 and and thinking it over.

Kelly, you know my story but i will share here again. I came to Cambodia in August 2025. Spent roughly 3200usd first 2 months getting set up started with apt. (first, last, deposit, which is rare) Visa fee. Getting around buying new items and unfortunately giving lots away. Since then my budget has been around 7-800 a month. No frills here newer apt. 200 electric roughly 50 food drinks smokes get around relatively cheap. I do not live as frugal as some. I live comfortable with a few minor frills. Stay away from certain scenes and one can live relatively good on 800 - 1000usd I think.

True. Luckily numbers are my thing. You have a point! I personally cannot wait till mine drop and for better or worse it’ll be 1.5 years not sooner. I’ve done my boots on the ground visit to SR and I am completely happy to have someplace to go to that I can afford. 🎉

Hi Kelly….there are expats in Cambodia, Laos and parts of Vietnam living on $600 to $800 a month, and not suffering. Just relaxing….

Kelly, my whole life i was programed to retire at 65 as a Canadian. and that was my plan, but with alot of research and help from people like yourself ( yes you did help me) I pulled the plug at 59, should have done it sooner. Many thanks for all your videos and advice without people like you I would still be in the rat race instead of enjoying the freedom Cambodia has to offer.

Superb advice Kelly. I would rather cut my cloth there and get there sooner than carry on living in this rat race. I'd be there now if our darling government didn't keep moving the goal posts regarding retirement age. Before I did my bike ride around the world, I was bedridden with a virus in my brain and spinal cord. It is much like MS. I spent 5 years stuck in bed, barely able to even crawl to the toilet. When people ask me what made me do it I tell them fear. For me, the real kick up the arse is the fear of reaching the end of my life and realising I never did anything that was truly for myself.
