I eat at and review Bungalow, which is located in the East Village of New York City. The restaurant is from Chef Vikas Khanna who previously won a Michelin Star from his time serving as the executive chef of Junoon. Khanna is also one of the judges on MasterChef India. Bungalow serves contemporary Indian food from the country’s 28 states. The restaurant is one of the most popular Indian restaurants in the city and I had to find out if Bungalow lived up to the hype.

You are absolutely right, he actually meets and interacts everyone all the time (reviewer or not). I have been there twice and he greeted everyone coming in personally. I also noticed that he tries to take one dish to each table by himself and talks to them that way. He always makes the time to talk to people and even take photos with them.
Also, getting complimentary items at Bungalow is not a surprise. They gave me two dessert items as complimentary the first time (both of them off-menu), and an entire entree dish the other time.

That's cool. It's great you met Vikas Khanna personally. He's like Gordon Ramsay level famous in India, so it's great he manages to balance the cooking with being a media personality

They might have recognised you, and you definitely deserve that recognition. But I don’t think he offered you freebies for promotion, he really doesn’t need to, considering he’s got 5.3 million followers on IG alone compared to your social media accounts. That comment felt a bit premature, but what you said afterwards made up for it. He truly treats everyone like a VIP, one of the rarest, most humble guys out there.

I saw the final bill and thought "Wow, that's not too bad!" But then I remembered that they gave you like a third of the meal for free 😂

The most shocking was the price. I've got to meet Vikas Khanna in person and ask him how he's able to offer it at such low prices. I was expecting it in thousands 😅

I went a year ago and it's good to see the food and service are still top notch. The balance of flavors are absolutely spot on for every dish. The prices are fair for the quality and amount as well.

Vikas Khanna was very generous with his time when I was there too. Glad to see it wasn't just for the start of the restaurant and that he's still there!

Giving complementary food is common among Indians. We don't think twice in sharing food, infact the contrary character is more common in urban areas.

When we were kids we called the finger papad, gold fingers. We would put our fingers through the hollow of the papad. So on all the ten fingers we had a golden crunchy deliciousness. Then we would eat all of them one by one. The crackle was loud . Ah! Happy times!

There are tens of thousands of cooks , chefs in India with the ability to cook delicious food but only a few can present and market them . Chef Vikas Khanna is now No 1in the trade 🙏
