Alcoholism is called a disease of denial. But why doesn't someone notice they've become addicted, and how can they be convinced to seek help?
Together with psychiatrist and addiction specialist Kirill Eliseev, we explore why people drink alcohol, whether there's a safe dose, and when addiction can be diagnosed. We discuss when to seek medical attention, how to convince someone to seek treatment, and the various alcoholism treatment methods available.
We answer questions like: How long does therapy last? Is it possible to restore health and drink moderately after treatment? What to do in the event of a relapse? We discuss codependency: how can the family of an alcoholic help themselves? We identify the three main reasons to quit alcohol.
And finally, we dispel myths: Is female alcoholism more dangerous? Is it possible to quit drinking abruptly? Is alcohol beneficial in small doses?
