Behind The Scenes - Love in '99

We spent this summer in Ladakh with a fairly simple idea - to make music videos for Ronnie’s new songs. The first one was Love in ’99.
We knew pretty early on that we wanted to shoot this one at Tso Kar. Of course, there’s the obvious reason - it’s ridiculously beautiful. But there was another reason we loved it for this song: the golden light around sunset seems to hang around there for hours.
The song has that very specific singing-while-you’re-driving feeling to it. A little nostalgic, a little dreamy. So we wanted the landscape, the car and that long evening light to become a part of the story.
Technically, we also wanted to push ourselves beyond what we’d normally be able to do on a travel vlog. We wanted to rig cameras onto the car, shoot it from different angles and experiment with movement and framing that simply aren’t possible when it’s just the two of us running around with a camera.
And for that, we needed a little help. We brought Stobdan on as the main DOP for this entire series, with Youngdu assisting on camera and Rahul handling production.
What looked like it should be a fairly straightforward shoot turned out to be anything but. The weather had other plans, things kept changing, and somewhere along the way Ronnie came down with a pretty terrible cold. We had a lot to get through and very little room to lose time, so we had to push ourselves - and the little crew - pretty hard to get the entire video in the can.
But somehow, it all came together.
Here’s a little look at what happened behind Love in ’99. Hope you enjoy the BTS. And hang around… there’s a lot more coming.
