Appreciate you watching this one — been working on it for a while.
Season 5 drops in a few days, so I’ll be doing a follow-up video: The Downfall of Joe Goldberg. Might go even darker with that one.

I always thought it was clear that Joe’s mom wasn’t just “stepping out”… she was selling herself to men to save up cash without Joe’s dad knowing.

As someone who had been the victim of stalking twice as a young girl, I am so happy that there is a tv show that shows how horrible it truly is. So many portrails of stalking in media is romanticised.

Ironically, Joe and Love were perfect for each other. They're exactly the same way.

This video analysis of this character is long overdue. Plus it is a perfect way to celebrate the upcoming finale season of You

Joe Goldberg was one of the most  crazy characters in tv film , this was a great analysis this was amazing!

Joe: cold, calm, calculated and manipulating.
Also Joe: "TELL ME WHERE MARYANNE IS!! TELL ME YOU PSYCHOPATH!!!!"

The most disturbing aspect of this series is to what the degree we- the viewers, take Joes perspective.

I cannot wait for you to break down his psychology in season 5. I binged watched it last night and am still shook by his justifications and his pattern of thinking. He really has fully accepted himself!

Dark psychology seduction used by stalkers

1. Stalking/surveilling gathering data
2. Mirroring based on non consensual accessed data
3. Gaslighting by negating their reality and sense of reality to be in control of their victim’s realities (and the narrative to onlookers)
4. Using someone’s past trauma to act as their ‘white knight’ or saviour.

None of these tactics are loving. Or romantic. They are all abuse.

This is, by far, the best analysis made from this show. PLEASE, make a breakdown of Dexter Morgan, a similar character. I believe you will come up with a great video, such as this one.

and you forgot to mention that while he was trying to be the one in full control of love's relationship, he cheats with delilah, trying to control her and ellie as well

I'm not a big fan of deciding to switch Joe's killer instincts from egodystonic to egosyntonic. I feel like the introduction of Resse and hallucination makes Joe overtly crazy. But I guess the producers felt their hand was forced because people were idolizing Joe and agreeing with his reasoning on social media.

Joe really is one of the most broken fictional characters ever

He didn’t choose the simp life.  The simp life chose him

Should do one for Hannibal Lecter and Dexter Morgan

No wonder he was so broke he was in everyone’s life but his own but a twisted man

I really love how they handled each character in this series if you pick each one as an individual the writing behind all of them is so well done. Even if they are just background characters or in only an episode or 2 they feel like real people and Joe feels like the realest of them all. Joe Goldberg might be one of my favorite character in tv because there is just so much to him the way he thinks the things that shape him. I think Penn definitely made this character his own and its feels so right. If a man has a conscience he will suffer for his mistakes that will be his punishment as well as his prison

Sucks they got lazy with the writing towards the end.

One thing is for sure. Joe was a victim who was abused and abandoned by the people who should've loved and protected him. That abuse and neglect created "The Eat the Rich killer" and the "Prince Charming Killer". A lot like most serial killers. Everyone has a trigger. That's what they teach you in Criminal Justice classes. Anyone can become a killer under the right conditions.
And, as someone who understands Joe's way of thinking, it's easy to get pulled into obsession and the desire to do violence. Most of the time you're not even aware of it till it's too late. Thankfully, I possess the self control he does not. But, had I been abused the way he was, there is no doubt in my mind that I would've become exactly like him.
