If THAT was enough to piss him off, imagine if he could see what Ubisoft did to his name.

Kurt russell from this time would have made an excellent jack ryan... he already played a jack ryan style character in executive decision.

12:56 It's not just that Ryan turns Miller over. One of the central themes of the book is Ryan questioning himself as being any better than Miller, particularly after the kill squad is sent to Africa. By not killing him, Ryan makes the choice to be the better man. It's almost the entire point of the story.
But Hollywood demanded... Anchors Away!

18:42 Clancy literally introduces himself on the commentary track with, "I wrote the book they... ignored..." It only gets more contentious from there.

5:04 Alec Baldwin possessed a tempetuous short fuse and was prone to verbal outbursts? You don't say.

His books would make a better 10-part streaming series than a feature length picture.

The film and TV adaptations have had a constant problem of trying to make Jack Ryan an action hero and not an analyst.

Most of Clancy's books are smart military political thrillers, not action stories.

It stings more than it should because we have such a lack of those types of movies/TV shows. Faithful adaptations of the Jack Ryan books would be a huge success but Hollywood cant help themselves.

Any novelist should know, no matter how popular your work, there are producers and executives who always know better, having never written, shot or created anything themselves. True artists.

"I'm Tom Clancy. I wrote the book they paid no attention to when making this movie" Commentary track of "Sum of all fears". My favorite part of that movie.

I think one of the problems is that novel Jack Ryan is a Boy Scout. Very clear cut morals and no action hero at all, the tension arose from other characters around him. I always loved reading John Clark segments better than Jack Ryan. And that’s aside from Clancy’s politics expressed in the novels.

Harrison Ford wanted too much money for Red October, so they got Baldwin. Baldwin wanted more money for Patriot Games. They figured if they were going to have to pay Harrison Ford money, might as well get Harrison Ford.

Hard disagree on Jack not killing Miller being an issue. Him not being able to kill Miller after all the man did to his family is a MAJOR part of who Jack Ryan is. It is central to his character, which is why I have always hated that ending.

1:46 They should make Splinter Cell movies

Red Storm rising deserves a faithful adaptation. Perfect for an HBO show but you’d have to cram the first half of the book into the first season with the last episode being the sneak attacks.
