For years, fishing had been impossible here due to the entrance being blocked. However, I wondered if I could somehow fish near the tetrapods if I walked to the other side of the river, given the meandering nature of the Hayakawa River. I tried it in January, but the current made it quite difficult, and on the first day, I stuck with it until nightfall, only catching one rockfish. The spawning season for black sea bream here is from late February to mid-March, so perhaps it was still too early? In fact, the spawning season often coincides with the time when cedar pollen is dispersed, so I came once each in February and March, but came up empty-handed both times. I wondered if the spawning season had shifted due to the effects of global warming, so I went fishing again in April. The meandering river now flows almost straight into the sea. Moreover, the bridge construction was finished, allowing access to the other side of the river. As a result, I was able to fish in the ideal conditions. However, there were still many pufferfish, and I struggled considerably during the daytime. However, as evening approached, the number of pufferfish decreased, though they were still there, and it felt like I might get a bite. Just then, eel fry fishermen arrived, and although I readily agreed, I continued fishing, thinking it might be tough. But then, during night fishing, I caught one of a satisfactory size, putting an end to three months of hardship.
