It's so sad how much ambition this game had, and it could have been at least playable maybe even enjoyable with an added few months of play testing. Iron out the bugs, give the players a bit more direction, maybe scrap the segments that didn't work. If anything the game would have been playable and defendable. Personally I think the game needed another year, but then it might have been too long of a development.
if Eidos didn't force them to release it when the movie came out we would have had an even better game. I feel for Core Design. Eidos ruined them for it. Why I will never show Eidos any respect for what they did.
I’ve been watching this series for years all the time, every time I have a tomb raider marathon. They’re all hilarious, in depth and so entertaining. Thanks much for this series 🤝
To be fair, the back button making you turn is only because of the control patch, in regular AOD Lara just walks backwards when you press it like the classics
You can visit Renne before you see Bouchard and you will be able to sell your items for money. However, if the game was finished it is said you would've been able to actually buy additional weapons using the money you find. That's why even at the end no matter how hard you try you'll always have a lot of money left.
"This man... this man robs Lara Croft. The woman who: has killed Atlantean gods, slayed a dragon, murdered a space-spider thing, killed Seth, the God of Death and stopped the headless horseman from killing her Irish priest-friend."
I don't know but the enumeration of all of Lara's crazy deeds and kills (boss fights) just made me laugh so much cuz I imagined just how weird and hilarious it would sound to someone who's never played any of the old TR games. The list of enemies that Lara has fought, especially as bosses, is super varied and... complex, to say the least :))
Secondly, great video once again. I really like that you actually demonstrate in-game where the games are good or flawed. Too many reviewers don't do that.
Nice video, this was my first tomb raider game I played when I was 5, my dad would help me get past the hard levels, kinda wish they continued the trilogy. It's pretty sad to know that Lara will not be the same anymore... :(
3:20 I never thought about that, lol. Good point. You are absolutely right, the game is broken and it is a shame, it could have been a wonderful game. One very passionate AoD fan is working on AoD 1.5 so we might get our hands on a more polished version of the game. I cannot wait to see your LAU reviews, Legend got me into the series.
I just love Lara's struggling expressions as she tries desperately to exit that buggy crawl space, even she's wondering what the fuck is going on! HAHAHAHA!!
It's crazy to think I beat the entire game without knowing that sprinting jump even existed, they also never teach you about going prone as far as I know which I did accidentally discover but was probably only useful once or twice. I also found it 'funny' that using ladders and sprinting doesn't affect her stamina of all things
a tip about the fire level in the hall of seasons the big wave of fire that sweeps over the lava is something you can just wait for, you dont have to cross the area before it sweeps there
Ya know, I loved the Paris part of this game actually. Still struggling through Prague because it was too hard for me as a kid and it was too buggy once I actually got there.
The bomb escape scene in the pawn shop still wakes me up in cold sweat at night. Who decided to give the player that little time to turn around with tank controls...
Great review! Playing it now for 2nd time, and enyoing it :D Once u get (kind of) used to controls and blink one eye on bugs, there are many things that this game does even better than before. Level design is great, high level of details in small spaces, atmosfere maybe the best so far, music state of art, talking with npc''s is cool adition, Lara is finaly a true character with personality, cinematic parts give the game more adventurous feel, and player feels more engaged in a story. But one has to really be a hardcore TR fun like myself to get used to overall feel of unfinished product. However, I would take another sequel of this level of quality over anything that came later. It' s more complex, less arcade "fast food"game, more true TR. My 2 cents.
